Missing lines of a poem

Hi, am trying to help someone recall the lines of a poem from their youth.
I think a current women's magazine has a section where they help with poems/authors.
Anyone know which magazine it is, then we can write to them?

Hi Margaret P, tried your suggestion, but ... struggling to find a site that I DONT have to join! Still none the wiser as to who wrote it. Someone has said "Patience Strong", but it is only a suggestion, but I will look into it.

Is Patience Strong the name of the person, or a line in the poem, gioer wafflin un say wod that means.

Thank for last posting Margaret - glad you knew! Here are some of the words that my friend can remember:-

Today I have walked with the sons of men
In a sombre bitter hall
I have seen the flies on a dead man's eyes
Settle 'er he could fall.

It doesn't ring any bells with me. It isn't one that I remember from my schooldays.

I will do a bit of searching tomorrow...see if I can find anything....but you never know, there maybe someone on here who knows it.

Just put her name into ask jeeves.
She's written more stuff that there are fleas on a dog. Sounds a bit like a war poem.
Surely Accy Lib should have sumat.

I didn't think it sounded like Patience Strong.......and like you Retlaw thought it sounded like a war poem.

Rather intriguing, having read what is written I am now rather keen to see the full text, are you sure you have the wording right ? I've looked at various sites but can't get an exact match up with what you've written just a partial or different expression.

It comes across more as a passage from a legend or fantasy epic along the lines of Beowulf, or from the pen of authors such as Tolkien or Homer.

I look forward to someone supplying an answer.

The reason I asked about the wording is because the following "almost" fits the bill.

And carry my word to the Sons of Men or ever ye come to die

Should it be what you're looking for you'll find it in "Tomlinson" by Rudyard Kipling.

Patience Strong- pseudonym for Winifred Emma May,1907-1990.
Bibleography 'Poems from the fighting forties'-it could be in there, she wrote poems throughout the war. I'd love to read the whole poem
She wrote the words to 'Jealousy' and others.
Can only find a few of her poems. Next stop library?

Gosh DaveinGermany, that poem TOMLINSON is amazing. I have to admit, have never even heard of it before.
Tonight I have been working with a guy who has suggested I look up works by a Wilfred Owen. Am just gonna go and get some sleep but when I waken up later today, will continue my quest.
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. Memory can play tricks, but my elderly friend feels the words he has given me are correct.

I am stumped.......I have searched and searched and come up with nothing...Zero, Zilch.
previously I have just put a line into google and it has brought up the poem...not this time......I have asked Jeeves...and ask...they were no more helpful.
I have looked at the poems of Wilfred Owen and it is different in meter.
Siegfried Sasson was another of the War poets...might have a look at his stuff a bit later
