Brothers from Clayton

Just wondered if anyone knows Pickups from Clayton le Moors there were three brothers John, Ian and Stuart one died but not sure which one. there parents used to have a shop (possibly fruit and veg) and there Grandma used to live up Rising Bridge area.

I went to school with a John Pickup in the late 60s, Tech up Ossy. Can,t help you any further though.

Don't think it will be the same one late 60's he would be around 20years old, maybe older. but thanks anyway.

I remember the Pickup brothers, their parents had a fruit & veg shop on Whalley Rd, they were a bit older than me, gut cant remember much about them, Ive got a feeling one of them was killed mountain climbing, decades ago, but my memory"s not the same. how did you know them.

I remember the Pickup brothers - they went to Mount Pleasant school. I think it was the oldest brother who died when quite young.

Sorry, have been away a long time, lots of ill health going on in family. I used to live next door but one to the Pickups in Clayton. The oldest brother John was the one who died in very unfortunate circumstances. They did have the fruit and veg shop and were a lovely family. The youngest brother Stuart gave me one of my first ciggies, almost choked to death.

Was Billy Folds Barbers shop and a Cloggers next door to Pickups, I remember a Grocers shop On the corner of Whalley Rd and Dill Hall Lane, I new a girl whose parents had a tobbaconist & sweet shop in the middle of the same block but cannot remember the names, maybe you can shed more light on all this Shaz, and other stuff about that end of Clayton. We lived down Blackburn Rd.

Don't remember a cloggers Alan but it has been many years. That shop on the corner of whalley road and dill hall was many things. the last time i was there it was a dress shop(some 30 plus years ago). I remember little Doreen and her mum and brother Malcom having the shop on Whalley road. Then Anni Hill and her sons took over.
Down by the traffic lights there was a butchers, Simpsoms? Had a daughter Kathleen i seem to remember. Also remember Maurice Kenyon a handicapped lad lived on whalley road. Wonder what happened to him. Had a few days break staying with a friend in Accrington last week. First time in years. Was surprised and dismayed how the town has changed.

Well Shaz , I remember the butchers, My cousin, told me that Maurice Kenyon is still living, feel guilty really we used to take the micky out of him.
