Re. Accy ... I think there is a plenty of regeneration going on at the moment, around the viaduct, Blackburn Road, Broadway,etc., even if you don't personally like it.

Think further plans ahead too per the tender put out to Consultants for a Master Plan for regeneration of the Town Centre and surrounding areas. The fee is huge, so the spending will be huge too ... I await with interest.

Just wondered re. markets in general, do you think they are Nationwide declining, due to cheaper High Street shops ? Clitheroe and places like Skipton thrive I suspect because they are small interesting little towns which attract tourists. Not an industrial town that Accrington used to be. :confused:

As other people have said, Bury still has a thriving market, and you can't say that is down to tourism, and it's quaintness.

Peter Britcliffe is quoted as saying in this weekend's Accrington Observer that there 'is an inherent design fault with the market'.

This was in response to the fact being raised at a council meeting that there were twelve empty stalls one Saturday in April.

A design fault?

Whoopie doo!

I wonder how much was paid to consultants to come up with a design solution which is so much worse than the previous one?

Brewery, and getting drunk in one spring to mind.

Sure nothing to do with design. They're all cold, draughty places and I don't particularly like them very much myself, but what would you like to see there ? and how would you attract a potential stall holder ?

A good design for a market would have plenty of space to walk between stalls, a covered roof would be a bonus, and like stalls would be grouped together, fruit and veg, fish stalls altogether etc. Pretty much what we had in Accrington before the recent 'improvements'.
