As Neil pointed out, it's the whole principle of the thing re: the calendars. If our paid civil servants were used illegally by the Cllrs, for their own alledged political agendas, that is wrong.

Time will tell, and eveyone should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

What you have just said has absolutely nothing to do with what I commented on about a leaflet distribution service posting for the Labour candidate. Has it? So your comment was pretty useless really. Or was it just a little dig asin licking Gayle's ar*e?

Well I feel that a Conservative government is completly different to a council, same for any of the other parties...

I'd vote for the Conservatives because I believe in core conservative principles like helping people help themselves..
My teacher is left wing. I doubt he would ever recommend that I vote Conservative :p

Re: Britcliffe monthly.

I don't believe Cameron has mentioned anything specific about things like that yet, although I would certainly hope he will do before the election :).

But.. I don't believe in making the state sector bigger to solve unemployment as I see the state mainly as a burden, the economy should be allowed to thrive privatly and then companies might once again want to build their offices in this country!

Well making specific promises on say the the economy such as 'x amount of tax cuts' would be kinda silly since its 2006 and not 2009/10..

Re: Britcliffe monthly.

Well he better find an answer soon because 14 months from now Scotland goes to the polls for the purpose of filling the folly in Auld Reekie. As conservaties are getting as rare as rocking horse dung he better get his finger out and give them something to work to or they will become a big a myth as Nessie! As tax is still in the hands of Westminster weavels it will be an issue up here and if by some fluke minor miricle or even a bit of skulldugary DC gets what then?

JM could run the show up here with the weavels down there and the outcome would be the same as The Pres. of the USA being of one party the 2 houses of congress being of the other. The verbal fireworks might be the most intresting thing. Maybe PB could get the job of running the campaign here to give us all a laugh.

DAILY RECORD headline; A rare sighting of a Conservative polotition was reported today in the west end of Edinburgh. Police have put a 24 hour gaurd on this very rare creature for its own safety and insist at the first oppotunity will be resettled back in the south of England. Though it is a rarity officials decided to rehome it down south for its own mental welbeing and support from its own kind. A cage was considered to be unlikely to allow its survival and as its nervouse it might not appreciate some glakit galloot from the public staring at it.

I disagree. If the Conservative party want to build support over the coming years until the next election then they have to tell us what they would do that is different from the current regime. You can't just wishy washily say, well, we'll do it differently!

andrewb 26-03-2006 12:01

Re: Britcliffe monthly.

Well they've told us lots about what they're going to do, just no actual figures on things, because it would be unrealistic to make a figure now, in my personal opinion. The economy, or whatever, the figure is based upon, could be different when the general election comes round so it wouldn't be wise to have to u-turn on policy..

Gayle 26-03-2006 12:07

Re: Britcliffe monthly.

They haven't told us what they plan to do they've just used genera phrases like 'improve the NHS' etc - they haven't said how. Cameron spent six minutes speaking after the budget and he didn't say one solid thing - all he did was using ridiculous phrases about Gordon Brown, who is now 'an analogue chancellor in the digital age'. What has that got to do with the budget?

Wants to share proceeds of growth between tax cuts and public services
Public services paid by the state don't have to be run by the state
Fight for fair trade, increase international aid, and press for further debt releif.

The opposition are there to scrutinise the government... wasn't be just saying that brown is stuck in the past as a tax and spend chancellor with his 'an analogue chancellor in the digital age'?

That's strange, in a recent thread you said that you "didn't want to get drawn on national issues." and you also said that you "needed to focus on local issues". Seems to me that you only want to get involved in national politics when it suits.

Well, news in the LET is that the complaint against the calendar has been rejected. Apparently, Cllr Britcliffe as head of the Area Councils had wanted a calendar for all of the Area Councils so decided to do the Oswaldtwistle one as a prototype. He then decided that it wasn't a good idea and so decided not to do it for any of the areas. Then he decided to use the Oswaldtwistle one as a personal one for him and Cllr Britcliffe and apparently paid for all the work that council officers had already done on it.

I've just had this year's calendar posted through my door, from my local councillors, Peter Britcliffe and Brian Walmsley.

Times must be hard. One side of an A4 sheet, and in black and white!

What's most shocking, besides the fact that Neil and family aren't pictured on it this year (perhaps they demanded a fee this time), is that Peter Britcliffe himself is nowhere to be seen.

How I'll make it through these dark winter months, without seeing that smiling cheruic face of his, I don't know.

It looks as if the full colour, twelve gorgeous picture days, are over.:(:D

For those of you who didn't receive a calendar...tough.

It's the result of your councillors not agreeing to the calendars being funded from H.B.C.'s coffers.

Who cares about what else the money could have been spent on in the borough, when you can look at the pretty pictures instead?

Now you mention it, there is a horse in one of the pictures ... and from some of the comments, it seems many of you think this Britcliffe is a real horse's ass:eek:;)

And he speaks eloquently well about them too:D

I recently received a calender through my door from the local area council. Does anybody know why the calender only features the names and pictures of Conservative Councillors?

Might it be because they represent the ward you live in?

I know that's the case for myself.

Thanks for your reply, but it can be that. The Area Council I live in has Conservative Councillors, but it also has Labour Councillors. Bit confusing really.

I'm afraid I can't help you.

My calendar at least had the contact details of the councillors who represent the ward I live in.

I'm afraid mine has long since been recycled, as those councillors just weren't as pretty as the photographs in the Friends of Rhyddings Park calendar.

:D

It does have 1 Labour Councillor yes. Maybe they forgot to invite her for the picture.

Does it?

As it only had one photograph of our leader, and not one of you this year, I only gave it a cursory glance before putting it in the recycling sack.

Can't be 100% sure because it's gone, but I thought my calendar just had the councillors from my ward.

You're probably right.

As I said, after the luxury of previous calendars, this one only merited a quick glance.

We have 2 Councillors in our ward Peter Britcliffe and Brian Walmsley both Tory. Ossy's Labour Councillor is Collette McCormack, she is Immanuel ward along with Jean Lockwood (Tory)

I'm aware of that.

I just seemed to remember the calendar featured Councillors Britcliffe and Walmsley's details.

Which I certainly don't have a problem with, as they are the councillors who represent the ward I live in.
