Plop.

Oh goody. The post's arrived.

Bother. More unsolicited mail.

Saga are now running a dating agency?

Why would I be interested in that?

Hang on a mo.

It can't be!

It might be a bit late, but it is! It's eventually been delivered!

My 2011 calendar!

Oh what joy.

The paper's a lovely quality.

Not exactly laminated, but certainly wipe-cleanable. So should stay pristine for many a long year. Or at least until it's filed away with the rest of my collection, when I get my hands on next year's longed for edition.

In fairness, non-Tories have their details listed.

They're just not pictured in the Happy-snaps.

Re. the Calender photo....not trying to stir things , but whats the population of Ossy ? seems to me its not twice that of Arrod which to my maybe dated knowledge has only 4 Councillors on HBC (2 for each ward , Overton and Netherton ,) v Ossy's 8 , since all the faces appear under the HBC logo I'm presuming they are all HBC members and its not including members of the LCC.
Would also doubt that Rishtons population is 3/8ths that of 'Ossy'
maybe a local Councillor would care to comment

apologies if I'm wrong , but just curious ;) :D

It should be quite obvious. The brain capacity of someone from Ossy is about half that of an 'Arroder. Therefore, they need twice the number of councillors.;)

not nice , just because 'Ossy' has ripped off the rest of Hyndburn to become the theatre/cultural/arts center of the Borough one should be kind to the mummers, minstrels and jesters from that fair ex-UDC.
To my mind it beggers belief that moneies which SHOULD have been used for the purchase (either through compulsory purchase or emminant domain)and the renovation/restoration of the "old" Con club as an area 'arts/theatre/cultural' center were used/re-directed towards the renovation some tuppany-happany (sp?) old UDC building as an area arts center with no provision has we have seen in previous threads for car-parking for the attendees, hardly a destination point for all Hyndburn Borough dwellers .... kind of , "if we build it they will come" ...on foot no doubt, in clogs and shawls , since the 15 minute an hour bus service from Accy town center to the Black Dog no longer exists .
Maybe time will tell , possibly in about 2 or 3 years after various OBEs and MBEs have been awarded to the acolytes the "Ossy" arts center will be officaily renamed /re-dedicated as the Britcliffe Theatre and Cultural Center for the performing arts.

Time for the Arroders and Rishtoners to rise up and demand a fair say ...:D :D :D

The building was a mess before the work was carried out and very under used. Why buy another building which would have cost a lot more money and then leave this one still under used?

Does seem more than a little odd.

Ossy - 12,532

Arrod - 11,217

Congratulations to the residents of Oswaldtwistle, whose recycling sacks will be just that little bit fuller this week thanks to the council. We already have the splendid and more useful Recycling calendar in Hyndburn so why tax money (however little) needs to be spent on printing and distributing this piece of tat I don't know.

The glorious Leader of the Council last night elaborated on just how much money he's spent in Accrington and Oswaldtwistle since 1999 whilst simultaneously saying that Labour's spending had left us with no money for improvements to Rishton.

Perhaps whittling out the hundred of useless efforts like this calendar would be a start.

I agree with you about the calendars Ken, never liked them from the off (when I was still active) it makes even less sense posting them through doors at the end of January, if they must put them out lets get that bit right at least:(

Rindy seems to be denying those of us who live outside the Oswaldtwistle perimeter the chance of seeing the reverse side of the calendar. I'm just wondering if the blue tapeworm around The Leader's neck gets his comeuppance between July and December?

Ah, the old chestnut about freezing council tax.

Not that he's been coerced by Mr Cameron or anything and will lose his 2.5% revenue grant if he does so. Votegrabbing by any other name, and freezing council tax doesn't actually do the borough any favours whatsoever in normal circumstances.

Roughly 75% goes to LCC straight away, another 12% goes to Fire and Police and the remainder is ours. LCC and the services will both still want an increase per year in line with inflation so it actually ends up being a drop in tax revenue for Hyndburn just to make Lord Britcliffe look like a thoroughly decent fellow. All the Area Councils got less money last year because there wasn't enough in the pot, all the departments had to make cuts too - nothing to do with 13 years of Labour, this was a Tory council.

A 2% tax rise equates to about 70-80p per household per month across the board. It's not popular to raise taxes but unfortunately it isn't in the borough's interests to freeze them too long.

Just a quick glance at the figures sets me wondering if the VAT refund is in there.

It's been used in several 'positive' directions over the past 12 months although never referred to directly, inferring that the council has saved all that money on its own.

There's still bags of room for savings and has been for years, from what I can see.

Council tax (HBC precept) has risen alarmingly over the 11 year period. All squandered as well as over £100m in extra government grants for being deprived.

Never in the history of politics has so much been wasted by so few. Setting it at 0% is giving back what had been taken in earlier years.

Oh yes. I somehow doubt that it will be given back when he ceases to be Leader of the Council although I will gladly hand him a bill for it if he'd like to keep it as a memento....

In the grand scheme of things it is a tiny amount but it's a tiny amount I'm sure most of us would love to suddenly find in our bank account.

You can get prettier ones.

Though they all have their artifical lady gardens on show, so I'd have struggled to find a photo where the garden gate is shut, which was fit to put on here.

Little prick.

That would only cause a little prick.

He'd need a much bigger tool, if he was to do it properly.

Back on thread!

He could pay a community artist to crochet him one in the Market Hall.

Hang on, that cost thousads too.

I'll have a look for an old Tiny Tears for him, in the charity shops tomorrow.

Now, now Ken, don't be too hasty, these people have suffered enough, just imagine if you were forced to read what people say about him, but never allowed to join in the fun?

The number of times they must have been tempted to sign up as members, but too frightened of the consequences, they need to be pitied not punished.

When we start hearing from TheExLeadersWhippingBoyHBC we might get a few even juicier titbits. Doesn't that make you want to vote Labour in the locals?

I have been told categorically in full council to uproarious laughter from the Conservative members that Cllr Britcliffe does not forbid his members to go on AccyWeb so all this scurrilous rumourmongering that he does so with any of his underlings is just asking for trouble.

Where is Cllr Whittaker these days?

I understand I'm a bit near the mark sometimes but rest assured that if I had posted anything libellous then there would have been notification within 30 seconds of hitting 'Submit Post'.

Morning Peter! I've got a meeting at Scaitcliffe at 12pm, wonder if there'll be butties at a meeting with no Leader present? There should be, under the rules....

My, how time flys.

It doesn't seem two minutes ago that you were writing to the local press, lambasting this forum as being a place of 'vile and vicious attacks' against your little chum.

Now you are one of us, and realise it's done with deference, and the utmost respect.
