Yes in the great scheme of things it is small but if we just ignored all the shortcomings of our illustrious leaders we could end up living in a total slum. Is that what you'd like? We pay our council tax and we expect our council to be a bit better at handling the money and organising themselves.

Last week there was a disgusting pile of yuck dropped by the binmen in close proximity to my back door. It wasn't important in comparison to the problems in the middle east but that doesn't mean I have to live with it. I phoned them up and got them to send somebody up to shift it. No, I wasn't going to clean it up mysself as it wasn't my rubbish in the first place and secondly if the bin men had done a proper job first time round it wouldn't have been there.

Have you ever heard the story of the ha'porth of tar?

If older and more experienced heads than yours think it is a cause for concern that our council regularly fails in its responsibilities, would it require too much humility on your part to admit, however grudgingly, that they might just have a point?

I agree that the issue of public Christmas Decorations still hanging in the middle of January is a relatively minor incident, but sadly it is an incident that is symptomatic of the whole. If they cannot be arsed to get this one small thing right, what other things might they also be laggard in observing, and what consequences might that lead to...millions of pounds of council debt perhaps?

Blimey I agree.:D

Shakey in the great scheme of things it doesn't matter a great deal. It just shows the Borough up as one who can't organise much, then blames finances as the reason why we might still have Christmas lights up in the summer, as we did last year.

If HBC hasn't the finacal know how to take them down at least before July, they shouldn't put them up in the first place.

:D Its because they are so bad at maths in the first place this situation arose. Anyone up for teaching the council basic maths and money balancing? :D

They can when it's their own money.

Peter Britcliffe ran a succesful ladies dress shop for many years in Accrington, he still might for all I know.

Sadly for Hyndburn, the new black will be red for next season's figures.

What are you talking about????? "prolongoed cost" (sic)? The whole point of the argument is not that keeping the lights up is costing money, since clearly it isn't. If you read the starting post on this thread I said that they can find the money to stick up pointless signs but not the money to take the lights down, for the third year in a row. Practice what you preach and read the whole thing!

I think that's because Roy has been very busy with work since Christmas, but he has given us the option to turn it off or on individually when he set it up. Just go to the bottom of the page at the left-hand side.
