New Year...same old story!

Well, here we are, the New Year is fifteen days old already! And already HBC is making sure that the borough is going to get its fair share of bad luck, if nothing else. I was always told that leaving Christmas decorations up beyond twelfth night invited ill fortune. The superstition has certainly rung true in Accrington for the past few years and seems set to continue. I was in town this morning and snapped these choice memento's to municipal idleness and stupidity. I don't know whether they are still lit up at night, perhaps someone could enlighten us on that score.

For a council that proclaims itself too strapped for cash to be able to afford to remove the Christmas decorations, year after depressing year, they don't seem to have the same problems when it comes to erecting pointless and utterly useless signage. Moreover, they appear to have few qualms about defacing the only half-way decent example of public architecture in the entire borough.

Well, at least we have a sign which tells visitors that this building is actually 'The Town Hall' so many towns do not have this indication. Remember spending at least 40 minutes trying to get to my hotel in Belfast in a one way system 'cause some Irish guy told me to turn right at 'The Town Hall' he may have known which of the stately buildings was such, but to a stranger could have been the local supermarket !! (oh no, they would have been well marked, wouldn't they ??)
Think my luck will be out this year .. Christmas Tree still up, will remove today.

The ones here and several other places I have been through are still up and illuminating the streets. If they foster bad luck the everywere in a 20 miles radius of me is doomed to bad luck.

Wish I knew what the message was. Thing is shooting down lights is an art especially the little LED ones makes for great eye hand cordination. :D

I just hope they aren't expecting us to pay the electric bill with our council tax.
