It seems that this idea is failing even more than was first thought, apparently A&E was closed for three hours on Monday night and patients were diverted to other hospitals. One man was taken twenty eight miles away and even though he was discharged they had to find him a bed because there was no patient transport available and he had no money to get home. Not a very good omen for the winter months!!!

I am a little bemused here, presumably most locals know about the feelings that abound between Blackburn and Burnley people (which I suspect originated from football), why then, would somebody think it a good idea to move nhs staff from Burnley hospital to Blackburn hospital? Seems to bear out the feeling that the lunatics are running the asylum! If the staff are not batting for the same side, how could that possibly benefit the patients? Would have thought medical staff would bury the hatchet for the sake of the common cause (and not in each others backs either), which supposedly is giving the best possible treatment against all the odds and bariers provided by the pen pushers that run the nhs.

know what yer saying derek, dont think thats the case though, was at blackburn with paris, a few months back n all the staff on that ward were "Dingles" at that time n honestly could not fault em, they were very good with her, it aint the staff that don't work, its the ridiculous merger!!!!:( have noticed none of the "Pro- Merger" posters earlier in the thread have "Not" returned to comment.:rolleyes:

I only mention it because there were some staff there who mentioned that they were not getting on at all together because of this divide, I am sure they dont intentionally take it out on patients though, just each other!

Agree with Cashy don't think it is anything to do with the staff, the concept just isn't working. It is reported that there are the same number of beds available so why the struggle? I know Mum waited about five hours for her x-ray when she had her accident so maybe the back up facilities aren't up to the demand.

I have been neither one way or the other Cashy, but does seem the best way forward. Just refused to sign the petition to reverse this scheme, until it has had time to run, as all made sense to me with the information we were provided.

Sure they were lots of hold-ups at the Burnley A & E similar to this reported for Blackburn, and people having to be sent to other hospitals out of their area due to lack of beds, facilities and under staffing.

How you can word the merger as 'ridiculous' at this stage; is a little narrow minded in my opinion.

I think its very easy to blame general NHS problems on the merger.

its you who is narrow minded, i have taken the trouble to speak to nursing staff from both hospitals n i base my comments on words from the horses mouth.:rolleyes:

Did they tell you how many extra human lives were being saved by having more money to buy expensive drugs used to treat cancer and other life threatening illnesses?

Well, me too Cashy, however, if you ask a horse whether it has any problems, will always complain about the quality of the stable, and the horse next door that is urinating on its hay.

Would these be the same drugs that are being refused to cancer patients because of the costs? The drugs which are very expensive because the people who are supposed to care about cancer patients are paid by the drug manufacturers, and so make them too expensive to justify.

How many times was it reported that A&E at Blackburn Royal had to close? I can't remember it happening but maybe somebody else knows better. It seems to me things are only going to get worse as the weather gets colder. As for the better facilities all well and good if they are running properly but obviously not in this instance.

Just an aside....my mother in law who is 82 years young and is registered partialy sighted was given an appointment at 6 tonight at RBH.
There was no patient transport at that time and she was advised to get a taxi to attend her appointment.
Luckily my daughter was on hand to take her, I take pity on the poor souls, living alone who are thrown to the wolves and are forced to make their way home at that time of night.
Partialy sighted means ' can't see' and at 82 I think I'ts a nonsense to expect them to book taxis and put the responsibility on the taxi driver to take her home and make sure she or anyone is safely indoors. :o

The same drugs that many cancer patients are having to fight for? Any drugs known to help to cure cancer should be made available without fighting for them regardless of cost. The delay in getting them has caused to many deaths that could have been prevented!!!! Plus the last thing you need when told you have this horrendous disease is to have to fight for treatment:mad:

Quite right your mother-in-law and anybody else asked to attend at silly times should be entitled to patient transport. Not everyone can afford taxis and why should they be expected to pay for them? Appointments are supposed to be made for patient convienience(according to the letter sent out telling you to ring up and book one)
