Re: What a cheek!!!

I did fall over one day whilst pulling it up (put it down to me stilettoes of course).Picked meself up,dusted meself off and started all over again, but suppose could have had more dire consequences. ![/quote]

Katex if you didn't need to PULL these things up and down all the time then you wouldn't have fallen. Before we had wheelie bins, if a dust bin man cut himself/herself on glass from one of our rubbish bags, he was well in his rights to sue us. So why does that not apply to us. After all we are carting THEIR property around

One RULE for ONE and another for the bloody HBC

i still maintain my view that recycling should be done at the tip by chain gangs of convicts and not by us in our homes :)

This sort of thing boils my blood. I`d write to the head of Cleansing demanding to know why the bins have to be put out by 7:30 if the collection time is later, is it so they can have a root through your bin?.If you don`t get a satisfactory reply go to the Observer. Also point out that it is not a courtesy to empty the bin, it`s an obligation and tell him to stop flyposting your bin. If they want to point to you ask them to write to you personally.

What I cannot understand is just how it was the binmen were aware that you did not put your bin out until 8.15. Do they employ someone whose job it is to go around checking all the bins at 7.30 or is this done by the embedded microchip?

At the moment a little jobsworth sneaks around with the official bin rooter to see what you have. As this is random they get all bins out by 07:30 so that no one knows the target area. The council does not trust modern technology so relies on legs and eyes.

It seems as though the binmen want an easy job but as was remarked earlier it does not take the older people or the frail into account. I was under the impression that in some areas the rubbish has to be split ino the normal and recycleable which is lifted on a rota basis of every 2 weeks or is it 3.

You may note that the 7:30 time is a guide, as per there own website. So sod `em.

I think that the sense of authority has gone to heads of some of the binmen........please note I did say SOME....not all!

They say:

In terrace areas, where the vehicle can safely manoeuvre up the back street, bins should be presented in your gateway with the handles facing outwards.

Well I'm not leaving ours in an open gate/doorway. It goes outside and the backyard door is closed and locked. We've been burgled once too often by leaving it open.

Ah well I must admit this is where I do adhere to what they say, whenever I remember to make my bin available and if I'm up in time I always leave my wheelie bin in the open gateway for them to collect, otherwise I would have to risk life and limb lugging it down the three very steep steps leading to my back alley and the latest lot of fly tipping that they will attempt to prosecute me for!:p

Do you not have assisted bins? Here i dont have to put my wheelie bins out the binmen come to the back door take them and empty them and bring them back. If there is something medically wrong with you or a pensioner who cant drag their wheelie bin to the gate then the council arrange for the binmen to pick it up.

Re: What a cheek!!!

here we have to put ours out .no particular time though so long as they re out for collection ,one week black bin (normal rubbish) week after recycled stuff garden , tins n newspapers..i do agree with recycling but these lads have it far to easy these days. If the lid is slightly open which happens sometimes with one wheelie bin for two weeks rubbish and a family of 5 , they wont take it and expect you to take it to the tip yourself and they slam a large yellow warning sticker on it to tell you they wouldnt accept it..

Re: What a cheek!!!

That doesn't make a ha'porth of sense does it? It all ends up in the same place whether they take it to the tip or you do. It has to be disposed of! So what else do they expect people to do with their surplus rubbish? Fly tip?

seriously willow it gets me so annoyed sometimes .if i didnt have a 17 yr old who is prepared to actually stand on the damn rubbish to push it down i d be off to the tip every week . the system would work if only they gave us 2 bins for general rubbish ..........but i do feel for those who have steps to clumber up and down

Re: What a cheek!!!

I have posted this before I think. There are 2 reason why they want the lid shut.

1. The lid can be damaged and rubbish can fall out of the bin onto the men below if they lift it with the lid open.

2. They are trying to force you to use your recycle bins by limiting how much you can fit in the non-recycle bin. If there was no restriction many people would make no attempt to recycle at all.

I am with Chav on this one though, the rubbish should be sorted by HBC not by us. Most of us do not have houses designed to assist with recycling. We dont have the space either outside or in our kitchens for several bins. I refused to use the blue box because I will not put sharp tins in it where my small children could get at it, the provided lids do nothing to aid safety. I also refuse to wash the tins out, they are sharp so go straight in my tin bin. Also why should I waste my water washing them?

Re: What a cheek!!!

lets not forget that the tip which is not council owned anymore gets money for all the tims we hand in and plastics etc

we are doing all the work and making them rich , it wouldnt be so bad if teh council owned the tip and the money made from teh resale of recycled goods was taken off our council tax bills

we pay the wages of the people who collect the rubbish

we pay for the bins , box's etc

we pay for the binwaggons

we probably pay to have it tipped atthe tip

so al in all teh tip owner gets all his recycled goods delivered to him , washed and cleaned at our expense then sits back and watches the money roll in

and if the above information is inccorect then see below ..

i pay counci tax and tax to be served ,not to be a servant
