What a cheek!!!

It was bin day round here yesterday and when I went out for my emptied wheelie bin I found a notice attatched to it.

It basically stated that I had put out my bin too late but on this occasion they had emptied it as a courtesy.

I put out my bin at 08.15, the collection hadn't been round as everybody else's bins were there, and full, some still had black bags protruding from them. The notice stated that the bins have to be out by 07.30, which mine usually is but due to being away on thursday and not getting back until 3am, I was 45 minutes late putting out the bin.

Needless to say that the notice was immediately binned..... You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't with this council. If I had put out my bin on Thursday morning before going out for the day, I would have been risking a fine.

This is going to be a real problem for some people, especially in winter. Where I live, we are told that we have to wheel our bins to the bottom of the alley. There is no way that I will wheel my bin down there in the dark. Not only would I risk slipping on slugs and shog dite but I feel it is also a risk to my personal safety, as there are so many weirdos and druggies frequenting our back alleys.

I will also struggle in winter when I'm on nights. I sleep until 5-6pm, go to work and don't get home until 8.30am. When will be the right time for me to put out my bin????

Has anyone else had this problem??

Have this work-shy bunch of slackers in the refuse collection department nothing better to do with their time?
If they were to spend more time actually keeping the streets clean, instead of finger pointing, the streets of Accrington and the surrounding towns would be a damn sight cleaner.

Who has dreamed up this ludicrous scheme?

Before you go to work. If they complain you can always ask them how your supposed to put it out when you are not there. No point asking them first as they won't have thought people might actually work at night.

I liked the bit in the paper last week when the Council chap was on about the tags n the bins. He said that the bins belong to HBC not the resident. We will all have to remember that the next time HBC try to charge one of us if their bin gets lost/stolen.

Put it out as you are going to work and if they call around to slap your wrist, tell them someone must be trying to steal your bin because you only ever put it out when you are on the day shift.

:D :D :D The worst thing that ever happened to our town, was employing
B.As in rubbish to empty our bins, gone are the day's of "never mind love we all have to decorate " wall paper no! owt does it realy matter.
My advice to all disgruntled residents is- if you pay any Council Tax (rates), as a matter of courtsey don't pay till the 5th of April next year
that is when it is offically due.
They can't do a thing about it. :D :D :D

We put ours out the night before because I'm never sure exactly what time they come to collect in the morning. It's ridiculous. What are you supposed to do if you're actually working that shift?

Re: What a cheek!!!

I can't put mine out as im still on black bags. It's been nice here for ten years, expensive compared to other council places that are 3 bed but we got the windows cleaned and a cleaner even though she's no good. Now we're bein charged 4 quid for cleaning windows, no doubt the cleaner will be next, then grass cutting and last but not least charged for collecting our bin. I'll be paying more to live in a one bed than a three bed.

So in a way you're lucky, they could charge you for placing that notice.

My daughter, who lives in Cornwall, can't put her rubbish out the night before because the seagulls turn up at dawn and rip it all to bits. She works nights too and really struggles with it. Just black bags for her and no wheelie bin things.

We have two choices........one yellow bin, for plastic and a green one for normal rubbish......both placed on the street corner. The muck truck turns up at around midnight every day..........problem solved!

do the council not realise that people are usually at work during the times they want you to put your bins out!

Have these jumped up jobsworth's nothing better to do. You are in trouble if you put your bin out the night before the collection, and now you are rebuked for putting it out late. You want to "nicely" inform them Lettie that there are other people out there that who also have public responsibilities, and your agenda can't always coincide with theirs.

I phoned up once to say that I wouldnt be able to put my bin out at the correct time as I would be at work and was told to leave my back gate unlocked and leave the bin in the doorway if you will - so the bin men could get it - I asked if they would put it back and was told no - I then said so I have to leave my back gate lying unlocked and open all day so my bin can be emptied ? 'yes' was the reply - I then asked if HBC would be liable if my house was broken into or something was stolen due to my gate being left open all day on their request/demand...a very long pause and then ' I will pass you onto my boss'...transferred to this guy who said they wouldnt be held liable as I should be there to have it emptied !!!...I then asked am I not allowed to have a job and be at work when this is done and would he go out all day and leave his back gate open to all and sundry...his reply ..'no' - I then said dont ask other folk to do it if you wont..he said he doesnt make the rules only enforces them...I had to put the phone down as I was a bit annoyed..I now put my bin out the night before - and they can try and tell me its going out too early...

Well I suppose that's another excuse people could use for not getting a job - I can't go out to work because I have to be at home when the bin men come!

Re: What a cheek!!!

Reason I put mine out night before is purely bad timing in the morning:-

a) If I put it out around 7 o'clock just after getting up and showering I would be there for all to view with wet hair, pyjamas and no make-up !! .. hmmph see me dead outside without that !! Also, in winter in danger of catching a cold.

b) To put it out at 8 o'clock when ready to jump in car, could be windy and wet and newly applied make-up and coiffure would go asunder. Stilettos 'aint good for dragging bins up the drive either.

No not jesting, just a facile woman.

What I can't understand Lettie, is how they knew you hadn't put it out before 7.30 a.m. .. is this a specialised job by one of the bin men to check such violators of the law ? Or do you have a 'tell tale tit' living near you.
