I have friends of different races.
I do not stop to think what race each person is.
Why? because FIRST AND FOREMOST THEY ARE HUMAN BEINGS.

I said ALL of my friends are human beings.
I didn't say that I have to stop to remind myself that they are human beings!
I said that I have to stop to remind myself what ethnic origin they are IF anyone else raises the subject.

You neatly left out the following sentence when you were quotiing me out of context:

I see only one racist in this thread Poppy and that is you for ever assuming that anyone could consider others of a different ethnic background to be anything other than human beings.

In your eye's the Poppy. When one of my asian friends refers to me as "the white guy" over there to one of his friends, he's being racist too?

When my youngest daughter was at Springhill her best friend there was a Palestinian girl. The friend came to me one day and said "I wish I had white skin. White skin is better than brown skin." I was gobsmacked and asked her why she thought that. She looked at me in her childish innocence and said "When I draw on my legs you can't see it as good as when Em draws on hers!" !!! :D

its all bollox..

im white they are brown /black or whatever, i dont get offended when i get called a white guy,so long as its meant in the right way as it was in this thread when jay said pakistanis.

IF it was being used in a racist context then im sure the people on here would have let jay know that, as this site is their baby (so to speak)....

so poppy i think that you are blowing this whole thread out of proportion and making a mountain out of a molehill IMO..:mad: :mad: :mad:

Hmmmm.....I've always viewed being racist as treating people differently primarily because of their race or ethnicity, rather than as individuals. Also, racism would include making generalizations (especially derogatory ones) about someone based on the same factors.

There are often gray areas....for instance, suppose I hold a fundraising event and notice that someone is wearing, say, jewelry with the Star of David. If I alert them to the fact that one of the dishes being served contains pork or shellfish (both non-Kosher foods) am I being considerate or racist? If I open the door for a lady, am I being polite or sexist?

Frankly, the various "isms," while are often very real, sometimes only exist in the eye of the beholder. It's probably best not to take offense unless you are sure that the offense was intentional. If it is unintentional, either let it it pass or express your concerns to the individual quitely and privately.

Treat folks as individuals, give them respect and try to follow the Golden Rule (even if they don't), and you'll do pretty well!

I started the thread, but i was refering to another post. It wasn't me that initially used the term "Pakistani".
