Lunatic in a white car
 

Last night, as we were coming back from a wedding do at about 8.20pm we were involved in an accident.

We were driving along Moscow Mill St (near the Printers in Ossy) about to turn left into Union Rd. When we were about 30ft from the junction a lunatic in a white car raced around the corner - they were coming along Union Rd from the station direction and turning into Moscow Mill St. They were going so fast that they were totally on the wrong side of the road and so smashed into our front end.

Fortunately, we drive a sturdy car and Chris reacted really well so swerved a little minimising the damage but it still made a mess and shook us all up (we had the kids in the back as well) nobody was actually injured.

This in itself would have been annoying but then the driver reversed at breakneck speed back onto Union Rd, amazingly missing the cars that were driving along and the 8 witnesses that saw it all, and then sped back off the way they came towards Church traffic lights. Anyone can potter along and see the tyre marks on the wrong side of the road that they made to see their path. Because the car that they were driving was a souped up vauxhall vectra (could have been an escort or that sort of thing) the front of it sort of disintegrated as they were driving away and left a right mess (again on the wrong side of the road) just underneath the speed camera.

We're all ok and the landlady from the Printers was great, she made us coffee and gave the kids juice, and we've got plenty of witnesses so our story was verified to the police when they got there.

The reason I'm posting this is because we are appealing for any more information. If by a fluke anybody else saw what direction they went in after they got to Church traffic lights or if anyone has seen an abandoned white car (probably burnt up in a field by now) please let me know.

Very sorry to hear that, Gayle. I hope you and yours are OK now and I hope they catch the sods who did it. At least you've got plenty of witnesses.

I am very glad to hear you are all ok, especially your little monsters in the back. I bet you are glad you got those last two booster seats now, arn't you?
Was the car a white Vauxhall Corsa L reg by any chance? I only ask as I saw one last Saturday driving like an idiot.

No, definitely was a bigger car than a corsa - possibly vectra, mondeo or escort. It all happened so fast that despite there being 8 witnesses no one could agree on the registration number.

And yes Willow, probably right, they were either drunk or didn't have insurance or it was stolen. One other thing - we're all fairly sure that it was a young woman driving which I have to confess, did surprise me a little. Without wanting to sound sexist here, you do tend to associate the whole car crime situation with young men, don't you?

We've just had a look at our car in the light and washed all of their white paint off it and amazingly, considering the speed they hit us and the amount of debris that was in the road, there is barely a few scratches on our car. The advangtages of driving a sturdy Volkswagon, I guess.

if you have 8 folk who cant agree what the complete reg. is then that doesnt matter - if they can agree on the first part of it then your fine - cos it can be traced on the first 4 number/letters...(ie du34 or t562) - it can then be traced to all the cars with those numbers and narrowed down from there so hears hoping for you..its good to hear that you and yours are all ok and I do hope it can be sorted out quickly...

You must be referring to our Taxi driver last night. That chap needs his license taking off him. For some reason he was asking about your sexual persuasion when you got out. I think he liked you Gary.

Crikey Gayle that goes down as a very close shave. It is very likely the car was stolen or the occupents had been up to no good in one way or another. Hope they catch the bams because there is enough mayhem about as it is and the fact the kids were with you makes it worse.

Glad to hear you are all ok, that's the main thing!!! I was driving to the stag about that time but must profess not seeing any mad white car drivers...sorry!! Hope they catch them very soon :mad:
