Oh no, Ian, you've done it now! Mentioning Cyfr's lack of years is like a red rag (or should that be flag?) to a bull, as I have discovered to my cost! Just wait until the young whippersnapper reappears!! :D

Good question! I'm a member of the Conservatives but don't have any active involvement locally (mainly because I thought i'd get emails informing me of things but as yet, haven't).

It's very interesting that it's 18, its certainly worth thinking about, though i'll be at Uni at the end of this year (hopefully) so I guess it's not really practical!

ps. My debates sometimes get 'heated' on here and perhaps I should sometimes learn to not pursue them further even when I know im right, I guess maturity will come!

Actually Cyfr I think you're very mature. If I understand this right, your family has always voted Conservative and so traditionally that's what you would be predisposed to but you're actually questioning it. If at the end of the day you still decide to be Conservative, that's fine but at least you've come to it from an informed position. Plus, the way you consider things I think means you'd be an excellent Councillor one day whatever party you stood for.

Sorry, don't mean to sound patronising, actually think it's great.

Thank-you gayle for that really nice and somewhat inspiring post!

I think my fathers side of the family are traditionally Conservative although im not sure if they even vote anymore to be honest, I don't ask. My mothers side are mostly labour and I think my grandad on mothers side ran as independent labour councilor at one point, so my grandma was telling me!

The only thing I can suggest is that you don't rush into standing for Council. Whilst I think that councils should have younger councillors I think the ideal age is probably 30 to 40. Plenty of experience but still fresh and a bit idealistic.

Good idea Gayle I was trying to suggest the same thing in a lighthearted manner to Cyfr albiet a little abrasive, but good advice as the murky world of local or government politics is a very lonely cruel place.:o

As Neil says, probably best if works out which party he supports first.

Obviously not very deep roots. Black Bush is a blended whiskey, Bushmills malt is the single malt.;)
