I will have to wait until I see whether those new teeth I am getting will be up to all those juicy fillet steaks which will be on the menu (slavering!!!)
I think Less might be feeling a bit intimidated by us single mature ladies discussing his underwear. He would have to pass a 'muster' test -ie -he mustn't have any cringe factor - I am hoping for too much from him?
I will put up with a lot from a man with a GSOH :D

That could be classed as a chargeable extra in some hotels and very useful if you have been drinking all night :D

Since we have to pass the time until Less returns to this thread-----
I have had a Now pass for along time - flat rate 50p -due to surgery on my rt foot. Coastlinks Express runs trips to Fleetwood, Clevelys, Blackpool, Morecambe, Southport -Last year over 60's could go for £1 return - this cheap rate was due to be abolished but Hyndburn residents are likely to have this cheap rate continued following a petition to the council (from a good reliable source - just happens to be an Ex of mine :D )

Yes, I have been told that too....and I was told recently by a coach driver that we will be able to use these cards nationally within the next year.
That would be good, as I take my disabled mum to the Isle of Wight and the public transport there is very expensive

Well, I'll meet the 'Over 60's' criteria come June....so I think I might just take advantage of some of those rides out.

Re: Age discrimination...

I only once booked a single room at a hotel in Malta. Having paid extra, as one must, I found the room was tiny and I would have had to move the bed to get at the ironing board. I complained, loud and long, to the hotel management and next day they gave me a beautiful double room at no extra cost.

I go to Malta regularly, choice of 3 hotels, and as I usually go April and/or October I don't pay any single suplement on a double or twin room. I've learned that complaining if things are not right - and sticking to my guns - works wonders but I very rarely have anything to complain about.

I think they should leave 18 -30 holidays alone. I like to know which resorts cater for them, so I can avoid them. :D That's one of the reasons I like Malta - Club 18-30 don't go there.

Finally, discounts for pensioners. The only place I get one is B & Q where I have a card to get 10% off. Everything else seems to get more expensive, like BUPA which I had to give up when I turned 60 and went semi-retired. Their charges go higher the older you get and it was becoming astronomical. Also next year I will probably have to pay more for my holiday insurance as I will be 65 in January. Presumably they think that after my birthday I will be far more likely to drop dead on holiday. It's the excitement, you know, being in "furrin parts" at such an advanced age.

I dont mind being charged extra when I get a double room with double the towels and double the tea and coffee ration, but those poky single rooms are no better than dungeons.
I must add that I have only found them in UK hotels.

Not really discrimination ... just shows that she is sober and has 20/20 vision:eek:

Well, not sure what colour those are ... good innit talking behind his back.:p
In answer to the above questions:-

Yes, I have a black tie outfit I always wear it on special occasions such as when out creosoting the fence.

I also have a black tie that goes with my black tea shirts for the times when I have to go to funerals of dear friends that I have outlived. (funerals are appearing a lot more often on my social calendar these days unfortunately, so be warned!).

As for the implication that I wear black t-shirts to hide the beer stains,
How dare you madam! I don't spill beer, (I do however find black is a good colour against curry stains).

The colour of my briefs should not be discussed in polite society, it is for that reason I always turn up at accyweb meets, COMMANDO.

As for single room surcharges, don't be a 'billy no mates', always go with a friend.
:p

18-30 is definitely a niche market, I never went on them (even when I was 18-30). I cannot stand holiday reps, who are full of false peppiness in order to get you to go on beer cruises to supplement their income by selling trips. I do think that OAPs should get some discounts, IMO, if I live long enough to be an OAP I reckon I'll have earned a discount or 2.

Single supplement is the biggest rip off ever, I have taken many holidays on my own in the past, due to being single and having holidays at odd times of the year. I have always insisted that I will not pay single supplement and have got away with it. If a travel company is desperate to sell a last minute holiday they will waive the supplement if you tell them you won't pay it..:D

Fortunately these days I have Sparks...... and can normally persuade him that a holiday is a good idea, so I haven't had to do my 'I won't pay SS' in the travel agents for ages.:)

although i have & drive a car i use my NOW CARD for a day out with my mates get on a bus return only a pound can't beat it plus it restrict you on how much you can buy (he he ) as for single supplements on holiday, i suppose im lucky ive got a few friends i can nag into coming away with me so ive had no use for them, ...but i do think its unfair to charge just because your on your own i agree with lettie stick to your guns & don't pay it .

Re: Age discrimination...

that whole £1 thing is a national govt scheme - it was trialed - it worked ubt for some reason it ended and its still being bought into action sometime soon

but its a new nationwide scheme to get oap's into buses

they're too dangerous in cars - i was on hte mway and there was some old guy driving a HUGE merc at 50 in the 2nd lane even though the first was empty

Margaret Pilkington 09-05-2007 13:43

Re: Age discrimination...

Mani....I think that is a huge generalisation there......yes SOME pensioners are dangerous......but not all. I don't think you should lump them all together. There are some very safe older drivers....and some of them have been driving on the roads for many years without any mishaps.
