A lot of people who I have had this discussion with have said this, and my argument is alcohol doesnt affect other people's health! Unless they get absolutely off their trolley and start fighting of course lol.

MMM i think u are wrong on that one im sorry to say but alcohol does affect ur health long term with liver diseases

It affects YOUR health if you choose to drink it - but not those around you who don't - unlike smoking...

I have voted yes on this poll even though I am a heay smoker myself.

The only thing that naffs me off is the fact that it is well known that modern extractor units availble have been proved to carry away the smoke, smell and danger to non-smokers. Only costs, bullying and smug attitudes that have prevented these going ahead.

The one thing I will miss is the 'withdrawing to the lounge with my coffee (eeeks caffeine :D) after a lovely meal in a restaurant' but am looking forward to the socialisation that will be created by the heated patios in the pubs.

Labouring a point yet again I will now campaign to rid the world of such perfumes as Giorgio (award for worst),Kenzo, Paco Rabanne, Moschino, Burberry, Angel, Stella McCartney, Vanilla based and Ghost which has some ingredient which causes me to fell nauseus, physically wretch, wheezy, chesty,sneezing unlimited, dizzy and generally extremely unwell. It also clings to my clothes and can smell it until they are washed. Amazingly, still have this incredible sense of smell. My colleagues at work now know better than to wear such a perfume when in my presence all day. Smell it when in town as people walk past me and wonder what they find so attractive in this obnoxious so called 'delight to their nostrils'.

Seriously, does affect me extremely badly.

Yes, roll on July 1st .. don't mind at all.

Have taken a vow never to comment on this subject again.. just invites the bigots/ganging characteristics in us all.

I probably will give up one day, but being a contrary Mary, not when I'm expected, or told to.:)

As far as I'm aware there are 3 places that wil not come under this new law and that the affected people will still be allowed to smoke freely and without too many constrants

1. For fear of "more this is against my human (cold turkey) rights" claims the prisons are, I believe, exempt.

2. The clients detained within the walls of the secure Hospitals.

but not the staff I might add.

and because its a case of "Do as I say and not as I do"

3 the House of Commons and the House of Lords

sounds about right

break the law go and have a fag;

go insane have a fag;
MAKE the law go and have a fag!!!!!

Well there's logic for you. As far as parliament goes it's obviously a case of do as I say not as I do. The other two - what's the justification? Must be especially tough on staff of a prison or secure hospital where the 'clients' (who decided that's what they were?) are permitted to smoke.

Re: 1st July 2007

What's going to happen in prisons?

If you are locked in a cell for twenty three hours a day, aren't you allowed to smoke?

I'd better start being good, or at least make sure I'm never caught!:D

Re: 1st July 2007

Well I'm a non smoker and I hate coming home smelling of smoke but I think a blanket ban is a bit too much. I think it will be the death knell for some smaller local pubs.

If a pub serves food then absolutely make it no smoking, if it allows children in then again, absolutely no smoking but if it's a pub where only drinkers go to for their pint after work or lunchtime then I think there should be an application process to allow some pubs to be smoking pubs.

Re: 1st July 2007

It is a bit of a strange state of affairs were you can locally go to a number of crack dens in the area, yet from next month you won't be able to have a drink and a cigarette anywhere except in your own home.
