1st July 2007
The new "No-smoking regulations come in to force, are you in agreement.

Re: 1st July 2007
Yes I am;because I am a non smoker and I hate smelling of second hand smoke when I get home after being around smokers in an enclosed space. I also don't value having my health compromised by selfish smokers who don't respect my breathing space.
But you smokers also my sympathy as it's obviously a very difficult habit to break. |

Bring it on - can't wait :) :) :) :)

Re: 1st July 2007
A sledge hammer to crack a nut in my opinion. There was no need for a blanket ban. They could have left it to Landlord's discretion or a designated smoking room equipped with big fans for ventilation would have sufficed. We're stuck with it now though aren't we?Only about 3 weeks left before it comes into force.

Re: 1st July 2007
If it was landlords discretion more pubs could suffer - as which pub would really put no-smoking throughout if a pub up the road allowed smoking. All the smokers would go to the smoking pub, and the landlord may fear this meaning he would feel presured to allow smoking. At least a "blanket ban" means it is out of the landlords hands - he doesnt have to worry about other pubs being more leniant etc.
Also if a room for smokers was the case, pubs without a seperate room would have to accomodate the smokers meaning small pubs could suffer. The full ban means the landlord doesnt have to worry about where the smokers will go - it is out of his or her control. Obviously there are loads of arguments for and against it- but I think a blanket ban is the better option as there is no confusion as to what is and what isnt allowed - and all pubs are in the same boat. |
Re: 1st July 2007
i totally disagree
seperate areas provides a safe haven for all without taking away the human rights of smokers |
Re: 1st July 2007
So how does a pub without a seperate area manage?
|
Re: 1st July 2007
Ok i smoke - and i agree with it. Been to Dublin after the ban came in and i liked it. Stood outside with the rest or in the smoking area with the patio heaters and underneath the brollys. Preferred it. You dont smoke as much because you have to get up and stand outside away from your friends.

Re: 1st July 2007
If pubs have seperate areas for the smokers there's the issue of if you go out to the pub with your friends and they all smoke. Do you sit in the non-smoking bit on your own, or sit with your friends in the smoking bit? I have this problem at the moment with my best friend, would love to sit in the non-smoking area of the Greyhound but she and her hubby and his friend all smoke and want to sit in the smoking bit. If its non-smoking throughout, no matter where we go I don't have to feel uncomfortable and know that no matter where we go for the quiz or a drink etc I can breath clean fresh air.

Re: 1st July 2007
A lot of Pubs have applied for planning permission to build "smoking shelters".
All buildings are to display the correct No Smoking sign or risk being fined, that includes churches which is a bit over the top. The ban has got to be a move in the right direction, just think of all the money HM Gov will loose as people give up the weed. |
Re: 1st July 2007
Yes I'm ready.
I'm never going out again.:D |
Re: 1st July 2007
I think its brilliant, i am a smoker and that way it will be easier to stop smoking, nice one
