It's not fair is it? The scum that drink all day, don't contribute anything to society and get violent can carry on doing just that because that's allowed but auntie Ethel can't go in her favourite cafe and have a ciggie with her cup of tea while she chats to her friends as she has done for years. When did anyone ever smoke 10 fags one after the other and then go and kick some innocent person to death? The law has its priorities all wrong.Very unfair.

That why I said drinking in public should also be banned.

I wonder how many pubs will actually be 100% compliant, As im sure last orders in a lot of pubs is 11,12pm and I have been in a few lock ins.;)

I voted yes ... even tho' it's not really any of my business. Ontario has had a blanket ban for over a year. After a few months it ceases to be much of an issue. I was a heavy smoker (two packs a day {50** for more years than I care to count). It almost killed me, whenever I feel the urge to light up I look at the scars I have from the surgery. However, I think that rather than punishing the addicts much more effort and cash should be directed at making sure as few people as possible start the habit.

The thing that really bothers me about the issue is the attitude of the "smoking nazis", holier than thou crusaders. With these a**holes smoking becomes a moral issue, smokers to them are somehow not as good (in the moral sense) as non-smokers. This is the wrong attitude. A smoker is an addict to a legal substance, he is not, and should not be treated as, a criminal.

Most Pubs have at least two bars/rooms why could they not just have one for smokers and one for non smokers ?

I know you are not poisoned by alcohol because the bloke next to you is having half a lager but when someone who has been drinking all day starts a brawl and finishes up kicking someone to death then that someone has,in effect, died of passive drinking. They've died due to the actions of a drunk and it might not have happened if drink wasn't involved.

I've been wondering about that too.How long before your neighbour can sue you because you're having a fag in your garden and the smoke is coming through their open window in the summer?
How long before the house insurance won't insure you for fire if you're a smoker?

At present a lot of adults go to the pub to enjoy a cigarette and a drink but after 1st July they'll probably be staying at home more, smoking at home more. That's not benefitting the kids,at least by smoking in the pub the children were protected from it more than they will be from 1st July.

There was something on the news the other week that Liverpool City Council were to ask their tennants not to smoke in their houses for at least 1/2 an hour to an hour before being visited by council workers! Now that's going a bit far

what about children that get nothing because parents spend there money on cigs .it should be down to choice i agree when your old enough to make that choice.if the cafe as signs to say smoking allowed throught the building then thats up to none smokers to go in or not same goes with pubs not being argumentive just two sides

As of Saturday you won't be able to smoke at the tables outside Annies Cafe in the Victorian Arcade, which is a bit daft, and even though the owner apparently wanted to allow smoking there.

The only place that smokers in Accrington will be able to eat and smoke is at the tables outside the cafe opposite the Town Hall.

Shouldn't be much of a wait for a table on a day like today though.:D
