Thank You HBC

I've posted the pictures below to show how ridiculous HBC is. The Council works department turned up last night & erected a new fence along the edge of the pavement. No problem so far I hear you saying. This morning another Council official arrived to put markings on the pavement so that other workmen know where to place the new bollards. These new safety measure could potentially close down two businesses due to the fact that the bollards & fence stop customers from parking LEGALLY in front of their premises. The fence has been erected without any correspondence with the local businesses & when the Council official was asked where the deliveries are supposed to unload, he starred vacantly at the floor.

I asked Mr Council bod if the Council would be paying for the new signs to be erected at my premises, informing users that my car park that it was private property. Guess what his answer was? The sandwich shop has a delivery most mornings, that park on the land directly outside their shop, as does the chippy. These delivery vehicles are now going to have to park on the road causing an obstuction to all other road users.

Before the Council person left, he informed us that if the fence & bollards caused us a problem, then they would review the situation & possibly remove them.

Well done HBC. Please could you waste more of our money.

Picture "2" shows the gap left for the delivery drivers to get through.

All deliveries will now have to either unload from the main road or reverse down a side street negotiating parked cars, a bollard & a lamp post(picture "4").

What on earth is it supposed to achieve?

No idea. As you can see in picture "5", there are already white zig-zag lines to stop people parking on the main road near a pelican crossing.

As I type this, the Council works department are actually extending the fence right up to the junction.

Has there been lots of accidents, with people crossing the road and getting knocked down?

Incidentally I saw on TV the other day a trial that involved the removal of all street furniture, bollards, fences, signs etc., and accidents were greatly reduced in those three cities/towns.

We are situated right next no a pelican crossing. I've lived here for seven months now, & in that time there hasn't even been a near miss.

Besides wondering what it is supposed to achieve, I wonder how much it cost?

Difficult to tell on your picture Accyjay as to the scale of the gap ... is there not enough room still then for a delivery van to get through ?

Did you actually ask them why ? As Garinda states will be some sort of safety issue ? Probably to protect the Moorhead pupils who insist on 'take away' meals at lunch, instead of staying for school meals. Somebody along the line must have pointed this out to the council, to prompt them to do this.

Maybe it is to stop delivery vans driving on the foot path.

Re: Thank You HBC

If the council had any sense it would widen the road there to incorporate a parking bay and then put that fence further back on a reduced width pavement in front of the shops, thus ensuring the safety of the Moorhead pupils or any other butty buyers and chip chompers who wander aimlessly out of the shops but also giving the delivery vans a bit of a space to park in.

Mind you, I did say 'if'.

Re: Thank You HBC

I think it is Lancashire County Council who are responsible for the roads and footpaths. It was HBC but LCC took it back a couple of years ago.

It could have been HBC workers doing the work for LCC but LCC will have made the decision and funded it.

I maybe wrong of course, I often am :D

Re: Thank You HBC

Well in that case why can't LCC be sensible and make a parking bay?
