Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
I hope you're mum is soon home and active.
My mum had that op in her late 80s - she also had heart problems but she recovered OK |
Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Well she has had the op with a spinal injection so she heard everything. Not something I would like to have to go through but it was the safest way. She is very tired but otherwise ok and saying she will be out of there earlier than the two weeks she has been told. Typical of my mum is that.
Kate they had to pin it, at first they said they would replace it but because of where the break was pinning was the only option. Just hope she doesn't get any infection now, they really stressed that this is one of the risks of any surgery. |
Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Good to hear that your mother is doing fine, she is bound to feel tired and pretty well fed up.
How will she fare on her return home, will she need help around the house for a while ? |

Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Well a bit more has come out about what happened, mum was visiting my sisters neighbour at Pendle Community Hospital. As they were getting out of the lift the doors began to close. It isn't clear what happened next as the blokes son had his back to mum taking a wheelchair out of the lift. The upshot is there is now a notice in the lift telling people to take care. I would have thought that lifts in hospitals should have a button to press to close the doors as they do at Blackburn.

Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Crikey it sounds like they need a bit more than a notice saying take care! You would expect the lift doors to be those sort that if someone is in the way they don't even close. I would be doing a bit of grumbling about that in the direction of Pendle Community Hospital if I were you.
Glad to hear the op went OK. I passed your house in a taxi the other day and noticed your poor wall. What with kitchen and internet and wall and now lifts attacking your mother! Hope that's the last. |

Sounds like the fracture may have been in line or something ? Anyway, best of luck to her for successful 'knitting'. That lift sounds a bit lethal to me. |
Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Can’t imagine it being very costly to by-pass the automatically closing doors and stick a new button in the panel to make them manual.
I imagine that due to the accident to your mother the incident will have had to have been reported to the Health and Safety Executive….perhaps all they can do for now is to put a notice up until the lift has had some sort of inspection. |
Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip
Mum was not to good yesterday and they had to give her four units of blood.Seems to have done the trick, she is a lot brighter today. Just waiting for an x-ray and then hopefully with the help of physio she will be getting up.
