Re: Mum Has Fractured Her Hip

Well had another pig of a day today, Mum was due to see the specialist and hoping that she would be able to put the weight back on her foot instead of walking on her toes. Appointment was for nine o'clock this morning so my sister phoned last week for a sitting ambulance. She was told that they are not available till nine thirty so checked with the fracture clinic and was told "Not aproblem we allow for people who need transport just report to the clinic on arrival"
Anyway got up and on there for just after eight thirty in case ambulance was early. Sat and waited and just after ten thought I would ring transport and see where the ambulance was. The operator tells me that it has already been and the driver has spoken to the patient who has said appointment is not till next week. Of course we know nobody has been so they say they will ring head office and get back to us. When we get the return call the operator is assuring me that Mum has indeed said ambulance isn't needed and I assure her that is not the case. Pass the phone to Mum and operator repeats these assurances to her and gets assured back that this is not the case. It turns out that the log of the ambulance shows it was indeed in the area but nobody came to the door.
Upshot is my Sister got onto head office when she came over for lunch and got told the same story about Mum saying it was wrong week(even thoygh Mum has not seen anybody). Now we have to wait till next week to attend the clinic. Mum and I felt like we were being called liars but on reflection if Mum had turned transport away why on earth would I be ringing to see where it was???

How stupid. What's the betting the ambulance called at the wrong address and it was somebody who does have an appointment next week?

Either that or the driver is fabricating the Ambulance log

I dont know, it depends. Is the log some kind of electronic device that actually monitors the movements of the ambulance, distance travelled, time taken etc. or is it a device that the driver types his supposed movements into...if the latter I guess it could be fabricated.

From what was said to our kid think it must be electronic now I think about it because it seems the ambulance was in the area. Was just so annoying being assured that Mum had spoken to the driver when she hadn't. I know she is seventy nine but she has all her facalties still.

Isnt it funny how these people seem to assume that the elderly have ****** all else to do all day? You did well Bernadette, I would have lost the plot i'm afraid, it is the usual incompetence and lack of respect shown for patients, especially pensioners.

What really rankled was the way they said to Mum that the driver had assured them he had spoken to her. Like she said it makes her sound like a liar:mad: Why can they not just apologise without you having to ring all over the place??

when we book an ambulance over here ,we always get a reference number, so that if anything like that happened you would have to quote the number,,,
