Re: Drug Test? Job Application
As I understand it, drug screening is becoming more prevalent by employers.
I also understand that most illegal drugs are purged from the system within about 24 hours, I may be wrong. If however I’m right, then the testing is a poor vetting procedure. What happens when they have asked you to provide a sample and some idiot Lab technician makes a hash of your sample ? It might be a small error to them but have massive consequence for the prospective employee ( especially if these details are to be kept and shared by other employers ) Drug tests, alcohol tests, smoking tests…next thing you will have to take the last 3 months grocery till receipts to an interview to prove you eat healthily. I see it as an invasion of my privacy. |

Re: Drug Test? Job Application
this drug testing thing is wide open for discussion , would Keith Richards or Clapton be a better musicians if they played 'clean' while doing their job , same with the Olympic atheletes , do we really want to set up a steroid built morons as an example for our kids as heros, (the Chariots of Fire days are long gone)
Are Macdonalds and KFC asking too much when they require the 17 yr old operating a deep fat fryer to be meth free ? Similar question, the local bus company that takes pensioners on reduced fare trips to Blackpool , do we/you really know that the driver is capable of passing a breathalyser after attending the previous nights Accy web meet ? ( the only way to find out if a prospective employee is an alcoholic is a liver test, something quite different from a simple urine test drug sceen ) Should Banks be able to refuse employment to someone who shows traces of cocaine in his/her system , lets face it a bank job doesn't appear to have many health and safety limitations ......but to me a positive drug test could show a probability for the need for cash . As for question about prescription drugs showing up , as far as I know all applicants are required to fill-in a pre-screen questionaire and list all prescribed drugs .   |

Re: Drug Test? Job Application
If the tests were restricted to currently illegal substances then it wouldn’t bother me even if I were young enough to be looking for a job.
However there is the problem of substances that are illegal for competitive sportsmen/women but are not in themselves illegal. Also as long as it would apply to EVERONE. Meaning the new CEO, MD, MP’s etc. |
