Heinz to withdraw 'Gay Kiss' advert!

Due to around 200 complaints that it was offensive and inappropriate! I find this absolutely disgusting that Heinz are actually withdrawing the advert! What a kick in the face to the homosexual people of the UK!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008...sa.advertising

This comes just weeks after Stonewall released the advertising campaign 'Some People Are Gay.. Get Over It'. Well this has clearly had no effect what so ever, especially towards Heinz who in my eyes, by withdrawing the advert are backing down to such homophobic people and too concerned about the sales of their products rather than fight their case with the ASA deeming it not offensive, nor inappropriate! What sort of society do we live in today? =/

Call me cynical, but I bet the withdrawal of the ad was planned at the same time as the ad was designed.

Double exposure, lots of brand attention and all for free

Can't say as I've noticed it but I wouldn't be surprised if Polly is right. There have been other ads with gay men in so why single out this one?

Because its just over the top...a nice pat on the bum would have said the same thing...

Oh THAT ad! pmsl I hadn't even seen that as a gay couple. My interpretation of the ad was that the kids and the husband 'saw' the wife and Mum as a New York deli counter guy because she was providing them with New York deli type stuff to eat.

How is it 'over the top'?! There are countless adverts where we see a man & woman kiss.. but just because its two men you think its over the top and 'dont like it'! What you have basically just said is homophobic, and its people like you who give children of today the impression that homosexuality is wrong, which leads to bullying throughout schools, and other acts of discrimination such as racism etc.

Absolutely no justification for your comments.

You can carp on about society/individuals accepting homosexuality as normal, but the fact remains that we're not at that point. Whether homosexuality will ever been seen as 'the norm' is arguable, as the fact remains that it isn't natural and so is outside of the mainstream.

Whilst the advert is fairly harmless and should arguably be seen as 'a bit of fun', the reality is that the majority of males (and probably females to a lesser extent) find the image of two men being 'overly affectionate' discomforting and I count myself amongst that number. If that makes me a homophobe in people's eyes, then fair enough. I'll live with that.

What the hell is the Accy Web coming to? I switch on here to catch up with the local gossip, acts of criminality and council stupidity and what do I find? Not one, but two threads about our gay chums. Enough is enough. If it is to be sodomy on tap then can there please be a seperate section?
