Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits

Seems the Spanish are getting fed-up with British yobs/slobs

Benidorm declares war on unruly British tourists - Telegraph

my question is ........why do British tourists think its okay to wear replica football team shirts and track suit bottoms anywhere apart from a football game or a private family barbeque , dont they realize they look like complete idiots.
The vast majority of folks visiting Ayers Rock, Milford Sound, Disneyland , Disneyworld , Grand Canyon , Taj Mahal have no interest in seeing your Blackburn Rovers/Burnley/Accrington Stanley team colours . Show a bit of class when you travel overseas , you are a reflection of your country

If you take note, that is the headline thought up from some berk in Madrid.
In July and August there are more Spaniards, Italians and Portugese using the beaches than Brits and that is when the trouble starts.
Spanish teenagers in their 'Macho' gear...naked, are seen to disregard the law. I'ts their country and they choose to do what they want.
Spanish antics dont make the newspaper headlines, unfortunately the British do.
Long range reporting is all very well if the facts are reported fairly.
Why comment on something that is obviously beyond your ken?

Hey, don't shot the messenger , I didn't write the report ....it's in a BRITISH newspaper , I hardly think the name Fiona Goven ( the writer) is a Spanish national, it is not a translation from El Pais or some other Spanish daily, reporting the facts as they see it . My comments were my own about the chav Brit tourists I've observed in different locations around the world .
And why on Gods green earth would the Italians and Portugese want to flock to the Costa del Chip-shop when they have the Atlanic ocean (Portugese) and the Agean and Ligurian seas (Italian) available to them

As for complaints about the behaviour of the local (Spanish) youth , as you say , it is their country (none of your business) and I doubt they are the ones vomiting up the curry, chips and gravy, neccesitaing the continuous need for the beach clean ups  ;)

I think the trouble is that young Brits on holiday don't do anything different than they do every weekend here in Blighty, they just do it every night that's all. City and Town centres are awash with drunken youths every weekend, which is portrayed on the numerous cop TV shows that now grace our screens, but when on holiday its just one long two week bender and all the problems that go with it

disagree with roy, from what i saw in two n half years of livin there albeit the costa del sol, 95% of the unruly drunken trouble, came from brits of that ilk, i hope the spanish do clamp down on it.

Benidorm is within striking distance of Madrid and central Spain and July and August see in influx of thousands from those regions.
I do agree that drunken yobs are a problem and the Spanish Police do not stand any nonsense but what I am saying that i'ts not just down to the Brits as the article suggests.
The Spanish have created an environment to provide a holiday for many Brits and most of the curry and chip takaways are Spanish owned as are almost all of the night clubs.
The Germans are not so angelic nor are the Dutch but again no headlines.
Italians and Portugese have in fact got their own resorts and beaches but thousands choose not to use them and come to Spain.

And most of the late night take-aways in the UK are owned and operated by whom ? (not 'Brits' ?). Are we to assume that business owners are responsible for the actions of their customers , and the clean up costs for vomit , litter and costs associated with anti social behaviour should be bourne by the businesses that sell the food , that they are responsible ?
just curious

It isn't just Spain we export to.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/24/wo...e/24crete.html

Many of these 'tourists' would have had grandfathers who also travelled all over Europe.

The difference being that they were part of a disciplined unit, and wore a uniform on their back.

ive spent a bit of time in benidorm throughout the years
and seen it get increasingly worse for idiots the worse for wear

Some of the resorts must accept some responsibility for our drunks.

If bar owners didn't push their cheap offers, free shots, large measures etc, they wouldn't fall down in the street quite as much.

As usual most of the people complaining about Benidorm have never been there. It's not much different to anywhere else.
It is what you want it to be,If you want to mix with noisy disco type people you can do,or you can go to a nice quite friendly bar, there is something for everyone,Safari parks-theme parks-water parks and some wonderful mountain villages.
Not many English bars have Happy Hours,That is mainly down to the Spanish who give you all kinds of rubbish to drink.

There are also many cabaret bars with good entertainment for free.
Sorry to say I think there are only 4 fish & chip shops but dozens of Chinese and Indians.
The more observant will notice that there are no dustbins outside the Chinese.
But what do I know only been 149 times in 37 yrs:jimbo::jimbo::dancedog:

Re: Benidorm claps down on unruly Brits

This is why Malta is my holiday destination of choice. There's only one "clubbing" town, really, which is St Juliens, and "Club 18 - 30" don't go to Malta. The young Maltese are, mainly, boringly well-behaved and polite and can't stay out 'til the early hours of Sunday mornings 'cause they have to go to Mass at 9 o clock - their grandmas insist! - so there aren't that many clubs compared to a lot of places. :D

To be honest, I've often stayed in Ayiah Napa, Cyprus, and on various Greek islands, including Crete and Zakynthos, and the problems tend to be concentrated in very small areas and individual towns. I don't stay in down-market hotels, don't go to night clubs and there's not much trouble during the day because the prats are all asleep. ;)

I only cringe at the airport when the undesirables are travelling.
