Re: Lockerbie bomber to be set free ..

re. the Lockerbie bombing and conviction , No one will ever convince me otherwise that this was nothing more than a retaliation for the shooting down 5 months earlier of Iran Air flt 655 over the Gulf by a US navy ship which "mistakenly" took an Airbus for a F14.
to my thinking the Lockebie bombing was a joint Libya/Iran effort .....the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend " thing .

'He served the first part of his sentence in Glasgow's fearsome Barlinnie prison. Megrahi was segregated in a high-security area dubbed "Gaddafi's Cafe", where there was said to be a "sitting room" and kitchen where Halal food was specially prepared.'

BBC NEWS | UK | Scotland | Megrahi: Profile of a bomber

I wonder if the boot had been on the other foot whether the Libyans would have laid on en suite facilities for a British terrorist, complete with a cook to rustle up a full English breakfast every morning? Bacon, pork sausage, black pudding, free range eggs, the works.

It now seems it will never be known what the truth is as this guy has now dropped his appeal, so there will be no closure for people who lost love ones, they will always wonder whether the right person was convicted of that atrocity

Agree with the above; but also if there is doubt about the conviction and there's no chance of a recovery from his illness then he may as well go now.

Now that he is free to go home and die then how long before he is conveniently dead? After it was announced by Kenny McCaskill we were taking bets on how long he would live back in Libia. Me I reckon 3 weeks before he is assasinated by "unknown" assasins.

mckaskill and salmond are ******* if they sanctioned this more like the british goverment sanctioned this so the scottish parliament is a total waste of money and resources and no i didnt vote for them they are ******* alex salmond is a self inflated ego along with the glasgow city council..

whilst those two up north may well be *******, like quite a few down here, the facts that there is doubt about the conviction, (remember the cock ups down here) with the supposed IRA bombers, the fact the guy is croaking sooner rather than later, this looks to me like a "Political Nightmare" n ******* or not its a damn hard one to call. IMHO.

guess its par for the course , civilians are expendable when politics are involved , Lt. Calley did less than 3 yrs for the My Lai massacre, and the skipper of the Vicennes walked after shooting down the iran Air airbus.
Cameron and Blair can still play kissy face with the US by saying "nowt to do with us , it was the Scots" . and the Americans are totally scratching their heads that one country can have two different legal systems .
The fact that Ted Kennedy has the cojones to complain about letting a terrorist go is a bit rich considering that he (and his family) were some of the biggest supporters of the IRA during the troubles in Ulster in recent years .

Maybe Ted could drive him to the airport ... on a road which passes a suitably large body of water.

Got to agree with you there, SJ. Mad Gord and his lot have played a blinder on this one. They quite correctly assumed that pompous little Alex Salmond just couldn't resist a bit of grandstanding on behalf of the SNP (look at us...we defied the greatest superpower in the world!). And of course, the "useful idiot" role was played to perfection by a blustering, arrogant imbecile like MacAskill who appears incapable of speaking in any other idiom than cliched soundbites.

So, as you say Gord can just wash his hands of it all, and he still gets to stay buddies with his new best friend, the Colonel and BP still get their hands on all that lovely oil! ;)

my psychic power must have been on full power yesterday when I made a mention in a post of Lt. Calley and the My Lai massacre, this has just turned up on the BBC
BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Vietnam massacre soldier 'sorry'

think we are seeing some damage control and reptilian politicians both sides of the Atlantic trying to cover their asses
