Starting about midnight, large graders blade the snow on the main streets into long lines (like immense lines of gritty, grey cocaine;)) ... then along come the large tractor-mounted snow blowers which blow this into waiting trucks ... all the city trucks, and the ones rented from private contractors. It is then trucked out to snow dumps. Kingston is an old city, well it is in Canadian terms, and the streets are narrow; so the snow can't be left at the side of the road for Spring to deal with. They quit at about 6:00 am so that they don't interfere with the morning commute. It's effective, and minimally disruptive. It is, however, expensive.
