Perhaps it's for the best.

It would have been too cruel.

First not to be nominated in the General Election, and then having to wave off his mortal enemy to Westminster.

Having to take his pot plant out of the Leader's office, and ponder how to survive without the Leader's salary and expenses, could have pushed him over the edge.

Besides, the sounds not working on this link, which I took as an omen this morning.

I'm looking forward to them all coming on here later to explain why the Independents decided to abstain when it was supposedly a certainty that they would vote for Labour.

BTW - if you wonder whether the Indendents are working as a clique, you only have to look at all their election campaign leaflets - all printed by the same printer to the same format - gives you a clue ;)

well i think this should be stickied until the next election so as to remind everyone how crooked this lot are and to show why voting indipendant isnt a good idea in hyndburn

whats teh point in standing for election if you are going to abstain from important decisions for teh district. If you do not vote you are not representing your people and tehrefore shoud stand down and give way to somone who will vote on important matters

in my opinion this is nothing more than an absolute disgusting display of backhand polotics and corruptness

Any of you lot read 'Private Eye'? I've not read it for a year or so, but there used to be an excellent section in there entitled 'Rotten Boroughs', all about the corruptness in various local authorities. I guess after the events of today, Hyndburn will now fit that description. I wonder if we'll read about it all shortly.

Re: Councillor Britcliffe Called off the AGM

Three hours of my life have now dissolved into the ether, never to return, and the ultimate ignominy is that I had to sit through vote after engineered vote as castrated as a chief eunuch.

The Independent group have 75% lived up to their name but in fairness to 75% of them they could see which way the vote had been skewed and just sat back from proceedings by abstaining.

For those who didn't see Paul Barton dragged from his hospital bed, it was a lamentable display of desperate politics which Cllr Britcliffe rather neatly pushed onto the Labour group. I understand it was Cllr Dobson who went to collect him but last time I checked he wasn't on our membership list....

Despite Cllr Britcliffe being on record as not particularly liking the noise from the room above during council meetings, it was a particular irony that the ballroom strains of 'Chanson D'Amour' drifted through the room as Malcolm Pritchard took his mayoral office

The major news of the day of course was not the re-election of a leader who jury-rigged the whole thing, not even John Broadley being backed into a corner over mayorality, but Peter Britcliffe's mysterious black eye.

As I said in the house, it is an honour to have been elected to serve the people of Rishton but I would urge everyone in the real world to just remember that nothing actually gets done in that exalted chamber at Town Hall, save a six-weekly pantomime where one man tells us how many golden eggs his whipped flock of geese is laying.

Can you elucidate on the above statement?

No, hence the mystery.

but Peter Britcliffe's mysterious black eye.

Thank you for that Ken......it is the best news I have heard all day.
I would add some expletives to that, but I am far too much of a lady....and anyway Cashy just about summed it up, so I don't need to sully my lips with his name or what I really think of the man.
A black eye is too good for him really.....it should have been two!
