Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
Speed cameras and fixed penalty notices are just a quick way for the govt to make money,Its a case of less paperwork for officers in the case of fixed penalties, and a case of cameras being placed where they know folk will be caught-- irrespective of whether it is a known blackspot for speeding.

Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
Well having had a driving license for over 23 years, I have only ever received one speeding ticket.
I am most certainly not a saint, that said I do stick to 30/40 in built up areas if the weather and conditions permit. Yes on the Motorway I do about 80mph maybe more sometimes, like most people. It is not right and I got caught driving at a average of 90mph on the M60 at 3am in the morning, it was a fair cop. But my car is a German high performance Coupe, it has always been looked after by decent mechanics from day one and always had genuine manufacturer parts fitted. It does not need shocks, brake pads etc. The tyres fitted are good quality, in fact dammed expensive ones, always replaced at around the 3mm tread mark and the car can and does stop in much shorter distances than the highway code suggests. I have taken my advanced driving test several years ago and have undertaken several high performance track days, even driving on the Nurburgring. The techniques used helps you understand the concept of car control and how to implement it. There is no excuse for speeding, but also there is no excuse for bad driving and the problem these days is that the police are targeting speeders with speed guns, vascar, laser and speed cameras. This is a political decision taken by the government at the time, I am not getting this in to politics. There is nothing more dangerous than a driver tailgating at 30 mph in snow covered and icy roads, as seen first hand in recent weeks. But back to the original point.... I too warn others of Police traps when I see them, the prosecution of Mr Thompson is, in my opinion, not in the public interest and therefore a waste of taxpayers money. |

Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
I had a driving licence for 25 years....and never got prosecuted for speeding.
I was once stopped by an officer on the M65 motorway......I was driving a clapped out beat up(but mechanically sound...and serviced) Ford Fiesta 1000cc......he stopped me for exceeding the speed limit by 3 miles per hour(I was coming downhill).......I was in Uniform and he gave me a warning, saying he would be watching out for me in future.......as he went back to his vehicle I muttered under my breath.....'and I sure as hell will be watching out for you'. I think this guy dropped down on a sky hook. I am no angel, and admit that at times, on a clear dry road I probably did exceed the speed limit(NO, I know I Did)....but as Boeing Guy observes there are other offences happening that are far more dangerous.........Tailgating, undertaking, and driving at the speed limit when conditions make this unsafe(snow, driving rain, fog) I have seen all these things on a regular basis....these are the dangerous behaviours that should be the target. |
Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
Why is undertaking dangerous? Many countries allow it. You should never change lane without making sure the one you are moving into is clear. The problem is motorists driving in the wrong lane. Last week I had to move from lane 1 to lane 4 and back to overtake a car sat in lane 3

I always flash at them aswell!!! |

Concentrate on moving to the left hand lane wherever possible rather than showing your indignation by flashing, please. |
Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
I know, it is allowed in Australia, but it always looks so damned dangerous to me....and many folk don't appear to look when they change lanes.
I always drove in the Left hand lane(I am talking motorway driving) unless I was overtaking......and that was what I was taught was correct. |
Re: Man caught warning motorists of speed camera is fined
I was once caught speeding, and was given the choice of a fine and three points on my licence, or attend a course on road safety. I chose the latter, and it was a very useful day. A lecture from a traffic policeman on the dangers of speeding followed by a drive with an advanced driving instructor pointing out any deficiencies in my driving technique. I found it very useful.
