Whilst I agree that some parts of Blackburn Rd are a mess,( and I still mourn the senseless demolition of my old house on Holland Street) I have been having more of a look around since the thread which featured the derelict courtyard on Bank Street.
And whilst obviously not in a predominantly Asian area have a look at Whalley Rd and Mason St , what a shambles! Mason St is a tiny street that runs down the side of that horrible Army surplus place, all the houses bar 1 are boarded up, the opposite side of Whalley Rd used to house Mary's Music , a takeaway and a hairdressers, now all looking very derelict, and what used to be Wolstenholmes and latterly Motability place also derelict,the motorbike place standing empty, this is pretty much town centre.......:eek:

my parents have a house on steiner street that is very run down and just standing there doing nothing. Apparently they are pulling the houses down right next to their house(so unlucky for them i know) They are trying to sell it and have asians that want to buy that have cash ready but they have a problem with deeds missing or something and now they have to proove they have been living there 30+ years... What a joke it has become.

Lately the house has been broken into several times. The boiler has been stolen among other things and just this week the garage doors have been taken. This town is a joke and the people that run it are complete...

I've always been fascinated by Emily Pankhurst and her ilk, I wonder, how much time she and her friends would have spent on Womens right's if they'd had to wash their own underwear?

I wrote to my councillor and MP giving what I thought were several valid reasons why this too large men's club/mosque should not be built on what should be land for affordable homes..

Not much chance, it's now 4 years since I was moved out of a solid terraced house on Holland street so that the area could be demolished to make way for affordable homes.
No sign of anything yet, though the Council had suggested a sceme a few years ago of us all nipping to the now desolate area created and spreading a few flower seeds, (someone has been really keen with a packet of Dandelion seeds).

The current obsession with demolishing terraced houses is going to be looked on as a mistake in future years. We live in a mid-terrace and it's the most solid property I could have wished for, plenty of room and cheap to run.

You wouldn't get rooms this size in a new build or a 'studio apartment'.

I didn't expect a reply but I did expect a responsible re-think after I pointed out to them that a previous government *dictat had ordered them to build 10,000 new homes within the next 10 years. I reminded them that the council could NOT find enough land to meet the target. I further reminded them that there was still a shortfall of land even after they had surreptitiously set planning permission in motion to build on Baxenden allotments and Huncoat football fields. In credit crunch times when people need a home with a garden to grow food would it be fair to use land which had the imprint of old houses and give planning permission for a very large building for the sole use of some local males and their out of town visitors.

*P.S. that government dictat was withdrawn near the end of that 10 year period.

I was under the impression that two or three mosques were being demolished to make way for the new house building work going on already. I thought the Hyndburn Road mosque was to replace those, though I could be wrong. I also think the new building should make more of a statement - it is the way into town - and as long as the new mosque is attractive, i think it could be a good idea.

Did you notice the small number of vehicles the proposed carpark could hold by those using the two premises? It's far too small and that was another of my reasons.

No! I am not an expert, didn't even realise a planing application with details had gone in it yet, thought it was just a concept....

Might have missed it somewhere, Jaysay. Would be very disappointed in myself if I had.

I read also that the plan was to close the other two mosques, but the one on Richmond Hill Street have had a PP in for improvements .. not sure if they have done anything yet though.
