Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
isnt this the case where david cameron refused to hand over emails between him and brooks
we can only assume what wa sin the emails but my money is that they contained something crooked or he wouldnt have had any problem with handing them over especially in a case with so much media attention and public interest as usual though the greatest ally of a politition is time and they know that they can be as devious and under handed as they like because the public forget because if the public didnt forget half if not most of the MPs in tehir seats today wouldnt be |
Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
I think Rebekah Brooks must be one hell of an actress, highly intelligent and as wily as a fox to slither out of all this. She must be very charismatic to have convinced the jury she wasn't guilty. She worked her way up from the bottom of the pile to become editor and that gives a bit of an insight in to her personality. Wouldn't fancy Muhammed Ali's chances (in his prime) in a fight with her. Hard as bloody nails.

Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
This trial failed - which I believe it has in essence (only one convicted who hadn't already plead guilty) - because the defence was funded by Rupert Murdoch and had unlimited millions to throw at fancy lawyers whereas the prosecution had to make do with what they could get on the cheap.

"Rupert Murdoch’s money flooded that courtroom. It flowed into the defence of Rebekah Brooks, because he backed her; and to the defence of Andy Coulson, because Coulson had sued and forced him to pay. Lawyers and court reporters who spend their working lives at the Old Bailey agreed they had never seen anything like it, this multimillion-pound Rolls-Royce engine purring through the proceedings. Soon we found ourselves watching the power of the private purse knocking six bells out of the underfunded public sector." |
Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
Isn't that similar to what I said in post 305?
It isn't often that I agree with the Guardian....I suppose the exception tests the rule. |
Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
Dodgy Dave went on TV claiming to apologise for Coulson, but to me, it sounded like Dave was just trying to save his own skin by throwing Andy Coulson under the bus so to speak.
I would say its justice 'half served' (but it's more like 1%). There should be a prosecutions and investigations into all the other dodgy characters who closed the ranks to avoid prosecution. Good old 'British justice' bought once again. |

A little article on the machinations of the case and the holes in the evidence that Brooks slithered her way through.

Appears they think listening to voice mails of people who didn't change the pin from 1234 is more serious than risking the lives of operatives by printing stolen secret documents! |

In a case of public interest reporting..publication of personal phone calls between royals, film stars and dead people is a lot different than publication of the machinations of our publicly elected officials exceeding their mandate. Personally I don't care how many times Prince Harry shows his backside to strippers, but I do care if the prime minister of my country declares an illegal war because of a phone call to a US crony and tries to cover it up. |
Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking
Andy C shouldn't be too upset, his paper was always saying how prison is like a holiday camp....
