Were/are your grandma and grandad, good and kind people?

They'd have been to very similar schools. Were you got whacked if you caused trouble.

If your grandparents turned out to be violent criminals, please ignore this post.

:D

Some teachers inflicted corporal punishment for fun (their own).
As a public school boy I expect that you were aware of that.

No, quite honestly none of my masters got off on caning us.

They were good teachers, and were always fair, when doling out punishment.

The only teachers I saw, who seemed to get pleasure from inflicting pain, were at Rhyddings.

Especially a mad Irish man, who really should have been in a secured ward, rather than teaching French.

Mind you, I suppose he was fair too, because as well as hitting others, he also indulged in self-flagellation, with a leather strap.

I don't really see the need to mention I was a 'public school boy'.

Unless you believe the myth that they are hot beds of sin and perversion.

They aren't.

No more so than in the state schools, which I also attended.

;)

Agreed - just because I have met one ex public school master (living within 10 miles of here) who was exposed in The News of the World when caught in a sadomasochistic act with the matron, does not make it prevalent practice.

Only one?

You need to get out more.

I could introduce to ten within three miles...from the state sector.

;)

Re: Mosque teacher

The favoured method of punishment when I was at school was the table tennis bat or ruler across the back of the knuckles.

Having talked with children who have been to school in Pakistan it is quite normal there for them to be punished by being hit on the soles of their feet with a stick.

My only real concern here is if a child was hit in a way which could cause a serious injury then that would be a dangerous criminal assault and should never happen.

I was a Sunday school teacher.

Before discovering I preferred sin.

Same language.

Different meanings.

In America the National Front would have been considered liberal, sheetless, commie, pinkos.
