Thats no good they get round the edges, or sit & wait to you open the blind again, even a bit of a breeze will movethe venetion blind about enough for fflies to get by. A close fitting fine net curtain is the only way to keep them out.

I found out that you are right about them 'getting around the edges'.
Everytime I thought I was down to the last two, and swatted them, I would see a few more.

The closed blind is tight up to the window frame, (I have a window where the opening is at sill level) but I had a 1/2" gap at that sill level.

I packed it with rolled up tea towels and the number of flies is back down to one again.

Looking at the pic, is the Spugmeister a Campbell ? Not wanting to cause a Clan riot or anything, but he reminds me very much of a Jockeen (A Campbell) that I know over here. :)

My windows have been shut all night and still are. My door has stayed closed too.
Despite that, I have swatted 6 this morning.

I am beginning to despair of ever getting the last one.

They are cheeky little beggars.
They land on you and tickle.
Hardly any sound, so you don't see them until they land.

You could trying calling out "your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman"!;):D

We had a UV one in the kitchen for a couple of years...it caught absolutely nothing...but the bug zpper that is like a tennis racquet is ace.......and they sizzle when you hit them.

It is good to share - enjoy

Flies Buzzing Sound Effect - YouTube

When they catch the scroat who arranged the illegal tipping, he should be subjected to 7 days inside a glass case full of them - I would pay to watch.

Re: A plague of flies

Living on a farm we are plagued with flies - you would have a field day here Margaret. We invested in fixed Mosquito nets at all the windows otherwise it would be hell to live here. I, like you, absolutely hate them after seeing documentary about them years back -they are really disgusting. We get the odd one coming in the house and have classic swatters in every room to hand - no sprays. My ultimate line of defence are little umbrella type devices for covering food when I put it on the table -you're guaranteed a fly will appear if there's food around.

I've also discovered that if our overhead fans are switched on the air movement disturbs them and they go up onto the ceiling.

I had a Uv lamp when I lived in Church and it worked.
My problem there was with bluebottles, due to living next door to a person with two dogs who kept them in their back yard. Those dogs never left that yard and their dog poo and pee was only cleared when it rained heavily.
