True John, but I'm afraid I don't really need to go after Cllr Britcliffe's policies with the same venom these days since he lost power and his party is now down to single figures in Hyndburn.

What did you once tell me about it being more fun in opposition?

Ya but before we had a labour council who actually had a tad of an idea what they were doing, not running round like headless chickens only concerned with undoing what the previous incumbents did just so they can thumb their noses at Britcliffe:rolleyes:

If you honestly believe that we're running around simply undoing Britcliffe's work you must be an even bigger acolyte of his than I previously thought. Whilst I'm not against the idea of the coalition trimming the fat they're crippling us as a council and within a year or two we're going to have to make some really painful decisions made simply to stay afloat.

Even Britcliffe seems to realise that the Tory-led government is hurting us - read his Observer column.

Ya and I also know how much you have in balances too:rolleyes:And the comment about undoing Britcliffe's work came from a council Officer, and they've no axe to grind

Yes, there are just over £2.2m in reserves and the amount generally considered to be an acceptable bare minimum contingency fund is £2.5m so I'm afraid that argument doesn't wash with me at all, especially at a time when the future stability of the council is threatened by government decisions.

The local Conservatives moan that the last government spent all the money whilst at the same time seemingly crying because we aren't spending all the money. Give them their dues, they know a populist bandwagon when they see one and aren't afraid to jump on it.

With Cllr Britcliffe up for his county seat next year I suspect we haven't heard the last on this matter.

Only to counter any nonsensical Conservative propoganda, such as HBC sitting on a vast hoard of money.
