I totally agree, foreign aid was meant to be a share the wealth, Robin Hood type thing, problem is it's now used as a bribe to countries to get them to invest here.

Unfortunately thats capitalism for you...wheels need greasing to make the production line work

not as many kids get run over outside school these days so remove speed cameras from near schools

perhaps there are less fires because these firemen get in their firetrucks and fit smoke alarms to houses and also do check on them if requested

im not been snotty here im not a fireman but theres a lot more goes on than just putting out fires and a lot of work goes into fire prevention

if heart attacks drop in occurance have we to expect even less ambulances ?

seems to me teh firebrigade has been hit as an easy targetthat people wont realise how much we need until its gone

You got £20 to spend

It costs...

£5 in case of fire
£5 to keep your wife from being raped in her bed
£5 to keep your grandad from wandering the streets naked at 2am
£5 in case you have a heart attack or cancer
£5 to fix the potholes in the road
£5 to educate your kids
£5 to support the unemployed, disabled and infirm
£5 to pay for pensions

Someone has to lose out.

Simplistic maybe..but it ain't that far from the truth thanks to the muppets in Westminster

my point is WE are expected to go without so other countries can go with

yes someone has to loose out but why teh peopel of this countrty all the time ?

(could also stop paying for working peoples prescriptions in scotland, ireland and wales and make them pay liek teh rest of us)

Can't believe I found a point that Guiness made that I agree with. The problem is here for all to see UK National Debt Clock - No-nonsense Guide to Britain's Debt Crisis

The choices are never going to be pretty, and no 2 people will agree on what to cut. But cut we must. We got into this sorry state because of 12 years of a Labour government. They won't be the ones to get us out. Choice, whether you like it or not, is limited. Lucky to have any fire engines because if the country was a company it would be in administration and we'd have no services whatsoever.

The only time the UK finances have been this bad was end of WW2 but back then there was a cause that everyone could rally around and not just general squandering.

Suppose not cashy, it will no doubt be for entertaining foreign dignitaries to further British trade abroad. They are obviously men of great taste and need to have such expensive bottles of wine so as not to offend their sensitive and cultured palates whilst also furthering British trade abroad did i mention that already?:D I mean whats that compared to the odd fire engine or two.
