thanks for that bob their doesn't seem a lot in the size of the plots does their but no.2 seems to have the position when you consider burnley and rossendale buses as well as blackburn

Isn't the "retail park suggestion" that yellow area above the shaded area on photo three?

Yes i think you are right willow that makes it quite a lot bigger than plot 1 and surely the better position

The retail site on Eastgate, the Netto site, is I think a non runner for the simple reason that although most of the units are currently untenanted they are too new to demolish. I anticipate that the thinking would be that relocation of the bus station would bring increased footfall to the area and thus increase the desireability of the retail units.

Hey, HBC have teamed up with Big Brother to sort this out,

high powered top gun from Big Brother is on the case

cant really see how a new bus station would increase footfall and certainly a retail park accomodating just a netto definately wont its a difficult one but i think that opening up the town centre to foot traffic instead of having to run the gauntlet with some of the current infrastructure would improve our town for everyone.

I don't see that the location of the bus station will have much bearing on the number of people coming into the town. We just have far too many empty shops and scruffy areas. Exactly what is there in Accrington to entice anyone to visit? Already two of the new shops in the "Wilkinson's block" are empty again.

The location of the bus station needs to be for the benefit of local residents.

Question, do HBC own the "Wilkinsons block", or is that like the "Arndale" If they don't then is it not down to the owners charging "HIGH" rents ?

It could be down to HBC charging 'high' business tax!

The Eastgate park has only one emty unit A-b. Netto and Pounstrecher have been ther for ages, Motormania have recently opened the old Halfords leaving just the old CBS unit empty.

Thanks for that Entwisi. Along with many others, it's ages since I have been anywhere near there, I suppose I am just not a "Netto" sort of person.

That sounds about right. I'm sure a closer scrutiny of the people HBC employ would bring to light even more howlers like that.
