I was sent this a couple of days ago and thought I might share it with you. Some of you may already have heard about this guy. (the formatting is not mine)

I lived in Maricopa County, Arizona for many years. I have White, Black and Mexican relatives and friends there and THEY ALL LOVE THIS GUY! So, don't email me with the - you're a rotten, mean, stupid lady, all you need is love - stuff. I don't buy it. Men like this is what is needed across this crime ridden land. Yes, Virginia, for some of us hardier folks, there are heroes - one's in Arizona.

HERE'S SOME REASONS WHY:

It was Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for
them.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their
weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city
projects.
Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for
discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order
that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only
let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.
When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot
it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.
He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.
When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If
you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the
jails.
When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he
replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the
inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just
set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living
in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have
been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer
shorts.
On Wednesday, hu ndreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their
bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week
before.
Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their
chests and dripped down to their pink socks.
"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has
lived in the tents for 1 = years. "It's inhumane."
Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago
started making his prisoners wear pink and eat bologna sandwiches is not
one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates:

"It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have
to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your
damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be
a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for
their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to
go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers
money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves. Go meet the Sheriff

No wonder Joe Arpaio keeps getting elected over and over again. Could do with him over here to whip the prision service into shape.

It would be great to think that a boot-camp system like this could be set up in Britain, but I fear that Cherry Blur, and her bleedingheart liberal gang of state sponsored legal aid would have plenty to say about it.

Can we get a clone of this guy to come over here and do for our criminals what he seems to have done over there. Bu**er human rights activists...... jail should not be the cushy number it appears to be...... criminals having a better time than some of the pensioners in the old folks homes(Not PC I know). Criminals being treated like victims.......victims being treated like criminals without the 'innocent until proven guilty' attitude....... let jail be the deterrent it ought to be.

I would just love to see this system in operation here. I believe this is where we are going wrong. The criminals aren't at all deterred by a jail sentence here, as one young layabout said to me "so what if I go to jail, they have to feed me there don't they?" I don't think he'd have quite such a casual attitude if he'd experienced tent city.

Hmmm - just think, tents here in the pouring rain and the gales, leaking tents, bent or broken tent poles......

Great idea - but what about their Human Rights? As Sparks says, Cherie would really go to town on this one (but of course that's her business, making money out of human rights for toerags). So far as I am concerned, and I think a great many other people, if you decide to commit a crime, you abrogate your human rights right there and then.

Come home, Joe, all is forgiven about that little unpleasantness in Boston Harbour ..

How abouts we start saving for his air fair over. Anyone want to set up a paypal account? I reckon we would raise enough to pay his wages for the next 10 years without any problems.

When you become a criminal you should expect your human rights to be suspended.
What about the two thugs in the telegraph yesterday...... they tortured an alcoholic woman...... locked her in a cupboard, beat her, urinated on her, put dog faeces all over her face. Then they went out and pretended to help a blind man, they knocked him down and stole his wallet and made him give up his PIN number so that they could get the money out of his account...... they also did this to the alcoholic woman too.
They are now tucked up in prison....gym facilities, colour TV, videos, three meals a day.
No worries about the community tax, or rent or any other of the responsibilities we all have....... and society thinks they are making these thugs 'pay'..... it is a joke...... and the best of it is, you and me, who do the right thing and stay on the right side of the law, well we are keeping these no counts. Bring this guy over here, or at least his ideas.......I would vote for any politician who said that this was how these thugs were going to be treated.
