Whoo-hoo!

Congratulations Wendy.

You are someone I'm lucky enough to have got to know, and respect, through the Parkinson's support group you founded. I know you'll serve the people you represent well.

Best wishes, and see you tomorrow x

They've done a swap.

Wendy retired from the County Council, due to personal circumstances, which have since changed, and Graham Jones won her old seat, of Accrington South.

Now she's taken over as a councillor in his old ward, Peel.

She's a human dynamo. I wish I had half her energy.

The official figure is 3.200 voters. But we have a lot of empty properties in the ward. It's probably nearer to 3.000.

It wasn't a great turnout yesterday for the by-election.But that's not uncommon for local Government by-elections.

Youre right, she is a human dynamo. Some of the opposition were suggesting that she might be to old to stand. Which had the effect of making her more determined to win.

I heard some of the opposition, rather desperately, questioned her age.

As stated, she has more get up and go than I have.

Wendy is someone I have a great deal of respect for, and would be more than happy to have her representing me on the council.

I was really happy when she told me she was going to stand, and am even happier now she's won.

Re: Peel By-election result

Rough calculations - in my head - Elected by some 15% of the ward population? I would suggest that a great deal of apathy exists in the ward.

The turnout Barrie, was was just short of 26%. Not great, but consistent with a lot of Local Government by-elections

Well certainly all the Conservatives in the ward seem to have been too apathetic to get off their arses, and vote.

Re: Peel By-election result

Wendy is a LOVELY person and I've no doubt she'll be a wonderful addition to the Labour Group. Can't stand negative, personal campaigning which is frankly stupid. Wendy has more drive and determination than people half her age. Well done Wendy xxx

Another victory for common sense voting and one in the eye for anyone who said she's over the hill.

The best person for the job won, as it should be.

Re: Peel By-election result

Wendy is dedicated. Voter turnout down by a 1000 because many people only vote in general elections. In Peel there are a lot of empty houses and people not not on the roll due to the private rented sector.

As happens in Laboir areas. If it is close people make the effort. If it is Laboir dominated people take a more relaxed attitude.
