How many people on here admit to buying alcohol under the age of 18?
How many people on here went into pubs before they were 18 and drunk alcohol?

Yes i admit to both. The thing is we never hung around the shop drinking it - we walked back along the back lane drinking it. That way none of our parents/family caught us - i got caught a few times of one of my dads mates and he grassed me up got my spending money docked for a couple of weeks.

My mum found out i was drinking in the commercial when i was 14 and phoned the landlord and got me barred lol so i had to go to the stag instead .
I think the difference jen is that most of us drank whilst underage but we(my mates and me ) never went around intimidating anyone . esp adults unlike kids today .

I know Mel and plus kids are starting drinking earlier - spug has this problem up there friday and saturday nights he doesnt go to the shop between 7pm and 9pm because kids are outside shouting abuse and asking him to buy booze and fags for them. He says they sort of take umbrage when he says he dont buy booze and fags for children - its the gimme gimme gimme generation. He says they are 13/14 years of age and quite happy to be a nuisance.

I agree jen . but just where does it go from here i wonder . by which i mean this generation can be pretty frightening . They have no morals as we did , they have very little respect and as ive said in other threads imo its down to the law to be rapidly changed . The police have limited power over youngsters and the kids know it and play it to their advantage . Its no wonder adults today are becomeing more homely if thats the right word . we as adults are in a no win situation . If we say no we risk being mob beaten and if we try to protect we risk being mob beaten and if we threaten to tell the parents we are laughed at because this generation of parents have been told its better not to dicipline your kids just reason with them and so most parents are beginning to accept this bad behaviour .. HELLO time to get real ... It is going to take a high status politician to be on the recieving end of these unruly horrible yobs to have the law go back to a more realistic one .

seem to remember it was not too long ago that Tony Blair's underage son was found passd out drunk on the street ......the press treated it like a joke ........if the Prime Minister of Britain is unwilling /unable to face up to the situation it doesn't show much hope for the Govt. doing anything about the situation

I used to drink underage and dont mind admitting it. Used to drink mainly at friends houses or at my own house, rarely outside. And when i was at college we used to go to the pub at dinner and never once got asked for id. But these days i get ided all over the place.

I grew up in the sixties, in those days there were very few offies as we called them, but I did drink before I was 18, I was a regular in the Bay Horse in Ossy when I was 17, and so were all my mates, but we didn't go out a make a nuisance of ourselves, causing damage ect.. Niether did we go about shouting profanities at everybody we came accross i the street, but times have changed, unfortunately for the worse

You could dole out these ASBO's but very much doubt they'd work as all these fruits see then as an honor, rather then a deterrent, like what everyone says the government needs to toughen up and give the courts and the police the power to issue greater punishment of sorts, but in reality it won't likely happen, and sadly it make these idiots even more eager to obtain alcohol, giving then the challenge they do not need in truth.

Whilst many teenagers do drink underage, they dont all hang around outside shops shouting abuse at people. I used to go out with my slightly older friend down blackburn and never had any problems.

What do people expect 14-17yr olds to do exactly for a social life? The cinema and bowling are two options I can think of in accrington but both are really expensive and dont last very long.

In Lancaster I saw the police do 'checks' on shops, asking staff if they had any problems, any one trying to get served for alcohol without ID etc. If I remember rightly they even recorded it on a survey type sheet. This particular shop was an off licence... in lancaster though many shops have the Over 25 policy rather than 21, and they're very strict on ID.

I haven't seen any drunken kids in Lancaster yet but I have heard there are areas where its a problem. I think the problem is just the lack of things to do though.

Obviously this view is from someone who is still a teenager so views will differ from mine.

well i never had that problem, it used to be 16 for both in spain, now is gone up to 18 so yeah i admit i did it before i was 18

It's the troublesome minority that this thread is about. Just because the majority don't do something doesn't make the minority that do any less of a problem. There are kids today who are incredibly intimidating - and that includes intimidating other young people not just adults.
