Don't really expect a good thunderstorm like this one in middle of winter!!!

Re: Weather

Thing is there is a severe weather warning out for Rossendale - so probably will cover hyndburn as well wont it - till 3pm tomorrow.

Ive nicked this from Rossendale online:
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

- GALES & HEAVY RAIN-

ISSUED: 0825 TUE 08 JAN - VALID UNTIL: 1500 WED 09 JAN

A developing low pressure is expected to spread, cloud wind and rain across all parts of Rossendale throughout Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday.

Winds are expected to slowly increase through Tuesday afternoon before becoming very strong this evening and overnight, gales are expected towards midnight and beyond into the early hours of Wednesday. Gusts up to 40 to 50mph are expected, but perhaps some higher gusts are possible over more exposed and higher parts of the Valley.

Accompanying the strong winds will be a lot of rain, up to 20 to 30mm of rain is expected between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. Not only that but increasingly cold conditions will filter in during Wednesday morning and there is a threat of the rain turning to sleet and snow, especially over hills above 300m. Where this is the case blizzard conditions are possible for a short time.

The strong winds, heavy rain and potential wintry precipitation will make for some hazardous travelling conditions overnight and first thing on Wednesday morning. Some minor structural damage is possible in association with the strong winds.

and this one:

Everyone!...

A major squall is going to pass through Rossendale within the next hour to 2 hours.

Torrential rain, with possible hail and thunder will be accompanied by some serious wind gusts. It will produce a period of weather for 30 minutes or so that is quite special to say the least!

Winds will then continue to be strong with gales and perhaps severe gales now overnight so a slight upgrade in the winds than the earlier forecast.

Batten down the hatches ladies and gents its going to get wild!

Matt.

Re: Weather

Ok another post from him:

The primary gust was with the initial lightning and hail, winds have died away now but will pick up again later on this evening and overnight, the strongest and more sustained gusts are expected overnight as I mentioned originally.

The main gust just now launched a wheely bin right down the centre of Blackburn road near Edenfield, was crazy!.

The temperature has dropped an incredible amount in a short space of time. At 7:40pm it was 8.5C, it is now 1.3C and still falling, precipitation is turning readily to snow.

Strongest winds are over for now, but things will pick up again overnight and early Wednesday, again as mentioned in the original warning.

Re: Weather

It was thundering and lightning here too. I was confused at first because I looked out the window and it wasnt raining yet it was clearly really throwing it down. Then I realised there is a huge shelter above the spine so people dont get wet silly me
