Whats happened to our Mayor and Mayoress?

Have suddenly realised, that I NEVER seem to see photos anymore of our Mayor and Mayoress. Strange! Normally they seem to be attending many local functions and a photo is generally shown in the local Observer.
Wonder why?

Re: Whats happened to our Mayor and Mayoress?

Did you see the article in the Observer where the council are considering a directly elected mayor?

Sorry, can't find a link yet, maybe someone else can search.

Don't fully understand this system but, maybe through debate here, things will become clearer to me.

Quote this though:

"Under the directly elected mayor system, the mayor would be elected directly by the electorate and would hold the office for a term of four years.

The mayor would appoint the cabinet and allocate decision making powers between the mayor, cabinet members and the cabinet as a whole"

You can have your say :[email protected] by November 18th. "

Of course, Cllr. Britcliffe has shown an interest to put himself forward...

'Boris' Britcliffe ... sorta' flows though .. LOL.

What a coincidence that a person who is likely to lose power at the next election invents a way to remain in power.

Mind you according to the Observer headline I'm pretty sure it's not round here, it's in Hydburn

Re: Whats happened to our Mayor and Mayoress?

I've seen him in the paper.

Though not as much as 'Why? Because I'm worth it.'

I also recently saw him supporting local business, in the Church Street chippy.

I didn't introduce myself, for fear he'd push my face in my fish and mushy peas. In revenge for comparing him to a puppet. Which I now concede he isn't, as I didn't see any strings when he ate.

Re: Whats happened to our Mayor and Mayoress?

No costs were mentioned, regarding having an elected mayor, rather than the system we have now.

Possibly because the Observer has become a useless paper .

I presume there'll be some difference.

We have a mayor for a year, but ward elections only every three.

Or am I mistaken, and we vote every year for one councillor?

I'm mixed up.

I know I have two councillors, and they are elected every three years.

Does everyone get a vote each May, for the local elections?

They used to, in St Andrews ward you miss 1 in 4 years in St Oswalds they vote every year, the reason being that there are only 2 councillors in St Andrews but 3 in St Oswalds (owing to number of electors, everybody votes in county elections every four years which I think would be the case with an elected Mayor

Thought so.

So in the year I miss, there'll be the cost of producing an election to vote for the mayor.
