You should have paid NI too

The same rules apply to students as they do to any other employee.

I did. I was actually on fifty quid a day, which seemed a fortune to me back in 1984, but I had no choice but to declare it and pay tax and N.I.

Re: Looking for odd things to do in summer...

When my son worked for Weatherspoons during his summer holidays (only about 3 years ago) he was taxed at source the the IR also made some assumptions about tips received!!

He did of course pay NI its part of joining the real world.

As employer I wish it was so easy as just to say, 'Im taking this student on because they have nothing else to do and I will just give them a few bob and a cup of tea!'

Re: Looking for odd things to do in summer...

I think students think they have different rules because generally they have a part time job and won't usually earn abouve £105 a week which is the figure for tax & ni these days. However this figure applies to anyone not just students.

The tax rules fo students with summer jobs are different from students with term-time jobs. Just make sure that you sign a P38(s) rather than a p45 if you take a paid summer job and you should not be taxed on your earnings. More details on this link

What is your problem exactly? You haven't even spoken to me personally for 6 years so what would you even know about me.

I'm offering my services, people either want them or they don't. If they do they can personally contact me and payment and tax can be discussed according. What is wrong with society? I just offered to do shopping for the elderly and all of a sudden we're ranting about tax!?

If I don't find anything to do this way I am going to just be doing volunteer work anyway, so if you need something doing, ask me, it'll be considered for nothing unless you feel like I deserve to get myself some lunch or whatever. Obviously if you want me to do your shopping i'd appreciate the bus fare if the shop you want me to go to is a long way away and stuff like that.

I am just BORED, I'm not intending on breaking the law. I do not intend on being EMPLOYED, therefore it isn't breaking the law to not want minimum wage!

No wonder why people my age just sit around all summer, its much more simple!

http://www.e4s.co.uk/docs/student-tax.htm

I found this information on student tax... think it basically says I wouldn't pay any tax... unless someone intends on paying me very richly for doing their shopping.

Re: Looking for odd things to do in summer...

I agree with ya for once Blazey, fair play to ya for trying.

Maybes ya've upset people too much and thats what the problems is, but at the end of the day, good on you for trying. I know most people would commend a student who gets off the backside to earn extra money

I agree, and Blazey should be applauded for wanting to do something useful with her time this summer.

Good luck.
