The Tufty Club

Does anyone remember the Tufty Club, think it was when I was about 6 or 7 and these people (might've been the police actually) came round the schools talking about road safety and we were all made members. If I remember right we al got a badge a handbook and a hanky with the said squirrel on them - ah memories :o

I was also in the Tufty Club.

It was run by Mrs Owen at my Primary school, Moor End, and was run one lunchtime a week.

'Look right, look left, look right again. If all is clear walk quickly, and safely across the road.'

Thanks Tufty, for keeping me safe for forty two years, and I still have your lovely book and badge somewhere safe.:)

Yeah I had one of those too. A luminous orange tabard worn over your coat. I thought my Mum just made the name Diddy jacket up, looks like I was wrong.:D

The diddy jackets - oh my god, I'd repressed that memory! They were given out at school too I think.

In 1961, the Tufty Club was set up as a nationwide network of local groups. At its peak there were 24,500 registered Tufty Clubs. The characters’ images were changed to keep up with the times in 1979 and again in 1993.
Was still going in 1993 though
