Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
HOw do we go about reducing the partition size in XP?
will the Ubuntu install do it? My son wants to install it too but he is on XP. He has bags of space to spare :D |
Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
I usually do it manually with a g parted live cd but ubuntu will do it
|
Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
Personally I'd let Ubuntu do it.
Re Less, not really sure what yuo are trying to say there!!! :D |

Yes, if you use it correctly.
|

Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
OK, might experiment on my sons pc first.
He can stand a mishap, I cant otherwise Freecycle would collapse :D |
Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
I have run it off a 2gb usb key and also on a partition on an sdcard and also the livecd, faultless apart from some problems with continuation whilst putting it on the sd, i should really spend more time in it but have been testing win7 of late which i cant fault yet;)

Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
Is there a linux guru on here that can help me create an image of a hard drive & save it onto DVD?
I have a Lacie Network Drive (500gb) that was el cheapo when Asda were selling them off that I have removed the drive from the case so my son can use the drive on his PC, however I want to create an image so that I can put another drive in the case & use it myself. Its a SATA drive. I have had a look with the Linux Ghost boot disk but am at a loss to understand it and am getting desperate to do this before he goes off to uni in a couple of weeks. Cheers, Matty |

How much data is there on the disk? Will you need to span several disks? Is there a logical folder structure you could use as partitioning? If you can it would be easier if you could fit the source disk inside a PC as a slave and squirt the image directly to the new disc in the case. If you aren't bothered about a flashy gui program the command line "dd" tool is the tool of choice. |
Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
There is 700mb of data on the 500gb drive, but 670mb of that is taken up by an AVI file that can be deleted (only I dont know how to - ubuntu wouldnt).
So when thats gone I want to fit it onto a DVD so that it can then be put back on a replacement drive and the replacement drive put in the box for me while my son gets the 500gb drive in his PC. I have a ubuntu pc in my sons room but none of us are that clued up on Linux. |
Re: Who else 9.04 ing?
30 meg? is that all? have you not got a usb stick or anything? I'd even say it will be quicker to email than faf around with burning a DVD.
Do you know how to use FTP? if you do I'dd create an account on some webspace and you can dump it up there. |
