Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Well, a much better week than I expected. Thought we were going to lose three and getting stuffed in one but like everything else recently it didn’t turn out as I expected. A good win against Olympiakos and against the Hammers – feared the worst when I saw the central defenders. City, I don’t think they took it easy against us, just the rub of the green went for us, I would not have been surprised to see them get at least six. Hopefully we won’t make the top six now – sod the Europa, too many games and we would lose money having to cut the summer tour in half.
Don’t have any great hope that Moyes will go before the start of next season, but will they trust him with a reputed £200M war chest? Only time will tell. So come on the Blues (either one), as long as they keep the scousers in the wilderness for yet another season. |

Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Have to agree that the scousers played like champions ... lots of confidence on that team ... and the atmosphere at Anfield was fantastic ... the title is so close, they can feel it. And the owners, even tho' they are Yanks, are sports-minded. They did a great job with the Red Sox. Arsenal seem to be out of it. And if it's a choice among Chelsea, City, and Liverpool, I'd prefer the title go to Fenway Sports rather than Russian dirty money, or Arab petrobucks.
Also be good if Gerrard could be on a title winning team. It would be a bummer if he ended up like Fergie Jenkins, all-star pitcher, three time Cy Young winner, Hall of Famer, who never came close to winning a World Series. And loyal to his team. Unfortunately his team was the hapless Chicago Cubs, whom I continue to support even though they have as much chance of success as England has;) |

My attempts to emulate Cassandra have failed as badly as La Crème have this season. Thought we would have been in for a drubbing against Bayern but we live on and hope springs eternal (I wish).
So everything I have expected over the last few games has been turned around. In the hope that it continues I am thinking the Geordies can do for us tomorrow, we will see. Come on you Blues!!!!! |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
To be honest would have preferred em to beat the krauts, But just not good enough.:D
|
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
We had the opportunity to win it in the first half and didn’t take the chances – so an era comes to an end, 17 consecutive years in the Champion’s League, even the NN will find it difficult to match that no matter how much money they throw at it, never mind the scousers – how durable is their current bubble, can they ever win the league again or can they at least maintain a top four position?
I am just hoping we don’t finish in 5th or 6th place – anything but that, but at the least they should try and finish the season on a high even if that does mean the purgatory of the Europa League, just hope that isn’t so Waiting with interest to see what develops now – New manager? New players? Departing players, only time will tell as it will for the rebirth of the scousers. |

Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Just heard that David Moyes is to be sacked, please say it is not true.......
I was under the impression that Many U we're not a sacking club |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
If it is true and The Chosen One is to leave.,,,,let's console ourselves with some of his words of wisdom:
David Moyes was adamant that his team did not deserve to lose against Everton. The Reds slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park to complete an unhappy return to his former club for the manager, but while critical of his side's defending Moyes thought his team played well. "We gave away two terrible goals but prior to that we passed the ball brilliantly well, kept the ball, had great control of the game," he said. "What we couldn't do is make enough chances but we had a great control and we got done by two stupid decisions. "We didn't have a final through pass at times, we didn't have a final finish when they came and there weren't very many of them. "That was the disappointing part, that we just couldn't do that in the final third but I couldn't fault how we played because we kept the ball incredibly well." Looking at Moyes’s reaction after similar United setbacks this season, criticism of mistakes and bewilderment at the result are recent themes. After the loss in Munich, the manager criticised 'schoolboy defending' from his side for throwing away a lead. Hopes were high in the Reds camp before the City game, but after being blown away 3-0 Moyes agreed things hadn’t gone to plan. "We never came out of the blocks," he said. "You warm up the players, get them ready, but we just never started well enough" Against Liverpool, this was the manager's reaction. “It wasn’t what we expected,” he said. “I felt as if the players looked in good shape and good fettle going into it but we just didn’t get to the standards that were required to beat Liverpool.” At Stoke at the beginning of February, the Reds boss could not believe Stoke had claimed the three points. “I don’t know what we have to do to win,” said Moyes. It was more of the same at Olympiacos. “I was just surprised,” claimed the manager. “I didn’t see that level of performance coming, I just didn’t see it.” Something is clearly not right at United. The players have not performing as the manager has expected them to in recent weeks, suggesting either a below-par level on matchdays or that the opposition are far better than is expected, or both. Moyes was not claiming this earlier in the season though. The manager criticised his team after they lost to West Brom in September and praised City in the derby defeat but overall was far more vocal about poor refereeing performances or close games. Mark Clattenberg did not escape attention against Liverpool but complaints about the team have grown. Their deficiencies have been highlighted more, with Moyes even claiming ‘mental softness’ after the draw with Fulham. Through the season, it appears Moyes has become increasingly frustrated in public with the performances in his squad, and increasingly at a loss to explain or defend them. Farewell David, you will be missed. Now if we could just have Giggs as a replacement |

Shoud've stayed at Everton! ;)

Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
We have played badly for most of the season but yesterday had to be the pits, inexplicable changes to the team, yes, fantastic possession but it was all in our half, square and backward passes, a formation that was totally negative, Welbeck and Valencia sitting on the bench and Nani on the pitch – total crap:mad:.
So we are totally out of it this season – mind you I can’t see us having to do a scouse job and wait another 24 years to be back at the top as they have:p. Just hoping that the news reports are accurate, and not just Chinese Whispers. Joy for the Burnley supporters – not just winning automatic promotion but really choking the deadwood lot, but they are trying to get to the play offs – won’t it be a shame if they fail again:tongueout. Can Stanley hang on? They should but another win will work wonders. Just hoping now that this week turns everything around – not just at the Theatre of Dreams - (Nightmares more like this season) |

Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
So he is gone, a victim of the pressure of the Press. A team who 'don't sack managers' have done just that.
A team that needs rebuilding, David Moyes never stood a chance. Still there is hope Ryan Giggs step forward. |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Wouldn't wish anyone to get the sack, especially a guy thats give me so much pleasure.:(
|
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Pathetic if you ask me, trouble with Man.U is they're not used to having to being on a roller coaster as fans of other clubs are, what I wouldn't give for Stanley to be that bad that they're only 7th in the league!!
What happened to letting him build his own team - still, I don't suppose Mr. Moyes will be too upset with a 6 year contract pay-off coming his way  |

Nice job yesterday Alan, looks like its Citys for the taking.
You know what though, all those months ago, I would have been over the moon with 4th place. Whatever Brendan asks for I hope FSG pay it. Have not heard much of the Plastics recently, wonder why, after all they have had 3 managers in under a year and looking like a 4th very soon, so much for 'La Creme' more like La Has been |

Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Here we are at the last day of this season and it is still not decided. Will the NN keep their bottle or blow it like the scousers appear to have done? – at least the scousers blew it with some panache – losing to Chelsea at Anfield:eek: Oh dear, never mind, try again next season, like you have been doing for the last 24 years.
Deadwoods and Stanley managed to stay safe, but of course a downer for the deadwoods with Burnley gaining promotion which is absolutely great, just shows what can be done on a limited budget and a good manager and a squad of players who have played out of their skins:D My lot, well, a terrible transition year, who could have forecast just how dire things could be – I just hope they don’t blow it today and get a better result that Spurs – the Europa could be a big distraction. As for the new manager? Apparently it is going to be announced during the coming week – is it going to be Van Gaal, or someone not even on the radar. He certainly has an impressive record, it could work for him having 2 or 3 years and bringing Giggs along, but not sure about that, I remember McGuinness. We will see. So all the best to everyone for the off season and my very best wishes to the NN – come on you Blues.:alright: BRH were as generous as ever - only in for 4 days (insisted they release me), but I still managed to pick up an infection, but improving slowly and should be back in full swing for next season:) |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Glad to see your on the mend Barrie.
Hope to parry again soon |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
All over & done with for another Season, unfortunately the Pool stumbled in the homeward stretch letting the Blue Mankies do a smash & grab on us! Still interesting to the end for al concerned unless you're a Manky U fan ;) (alright Bazza!)
So well done City! And lets see what next season has to show us. :) |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Could not agree more, well done City.
And a big thanks to Man U for all the fun you have given us, I cannot wait for the next instalment of Breaking Manc! |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Almost back to normal now thanks to BRH – an infection within 12 hours of surgery and they couldn’t even find me an extra blanket, but it was 0220 hrs and I had obviously disturbed their rest break.
Nothing much going on in the football world. Oh yes, there is the World Cup – can’t understand why it doesn’t excite me at least a little, but it doesn’t. Why did he play 3 players out of their normal club positions – Rooney, Welbeck and Sterling – baffled me, perhaps it will be different tonight. I don’t expect much to come out of the Theatre of Dreams until Holland finish in Brazil, just hoping it stays as Dreams and not Nightmares again. I see the scousers have bought two strikers – could they be expecting someone to leave before the start of the season? I hadn’t realised it was quite that long since the scousers won the Premiership/First Division. Is it really 24 years? Even the deadwoods haven’t had to wait that long. Will be trying to get a ticket for Turf Moor to watch Burnley v La Crème, must be a downer for the deadwoods to see Burnley back in the Premiership again whilst they again struggle to stay in the Championship. Let us hope that Stanley can emulate Fleetwood and make a real challenge this season. Roll on the season start and then the “fun” can start all over again. |
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery, Barrie. Hoping to see you take advantage of your renewed health by making an appearance or two at the Store First Stadium this coming season! No need to procure a ticket - just turn up!
|
Re: Mancie's Thread - The Road to the Titles
No really outstanding teams showing so far at the World Cup, a few teams have been lucky to progress, it appears to me that the climate has had a considerable impact upon some teams more than others, especially when they go into extra time.
Hoping that Holland don’t progress too much further although VG has managed to get some pretty impressive effort out of a team without too much class – good portent for the future? Is it true that the Vampire is hoping for a new career in Hollywood and is trying out for the re-make of “Silence of the Lambs” – I am sure that everyone can guess what part he will be auditioning for. I think the scousers knew, or at least suspected, despite his professed “love” for them, that he would somehow engineer a move away to Barca or Real during this summer. Doesn’t seem to be much movement in our local teams, perhaps the management are too busy watching the TV. Roll on August 16th. |
