Re: Punk heralded the death of pop

Yeah it's kind of ironic really, Roger Daltry, out of that little know band The Who, used to do a global advert for American Express.
While John Lyndon, of the Sex Pistols, world famous..... Does a Country Life advert............

Last year, we landed in Goose Bay, Canada, on our way to Jacksonville (to pick some golfers up, for the Volvo Golf Championship, we have not got the endurance to fly to the USA non stop), our Engineer and I were speaking to the refuler, he asked where we where from and we said Leeds, he immediately replied, I have heard of Leeds, The Who did a album, Live at Leeds. Made me laugh if not our engineer. I could not imagine a similar thing happening with punk

Pop music has never gone away, there are more people listening to it every day.
The Beatles are selling albums every day, they last recorded together in 1970.
On the other side of the coin, punk music has all but gone from everyday life.

Your wrong - Johnnie Rotten was on the BBC one show Last year! Also this year there was a program on BBC 3 about 1977 and the punks on top of the pops also several programs on Nirvana who were inpired by punk and a form of punk!

Last year..........................
Yet there are dedicated Music Channels for Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock on 24 hours per day.
Punk is dead, long live the King.
Anyway, I thought you had, had enough of us....

I forgot about Duck Rock, which was not punk, but hip hop.
I never said he was clever. What point are you trying to make?

I never said it was punk. If you recall the Rock n' Roll Swindle near the end there were some black guys dancing, I don't recall exact detail now but it was like McLaren knew what was going to be big next that was Hip Hop - I don't know what you think:confused: but I think Trevor Horn is a genius of production and McLaren very clever - that is the point I was making!

More Frankie - been researching 1984 music. This is a classic, beautiful music and lyric. Found this version live from the San Remo Festival 1985 - the festival will be on shortly.
