Re: Music to conjure up Christmas spirit...

There's a strong tradition of carol singing in the village pubs around Sheffield, from Armistice Day to Boxing Day. Many are local carols, not known elsewhere. Here are a couple of clips from a pub we have been to, as it says on YouTube: No video could do justice to the tremendous atmosphere in the Royal at Dungworth on Sunday lunchtimes before Christmas with all the voices joining together in one wonderful celebration of goodwill, welcome and harmony. But at least you'll see something of what it looks like and hear all the voices raised in song.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="The Royal again - YouTube" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Sorry don't seem to have got the hang of posting videos yet.

Actually that is wrong -nice atmosphere -just normal people joining together and enjoying something they have in common. Great to see them all relaxed, drink in hand and celebrating with a song they all know...

Thanks for this post -really Christmasy without being "Chocolate-boxy"!

Some classics:
Nat King Cole

Frankie

Why do they all seem so sad ? So far Elvis "Blue Xmas" is the one I can hear in my head and keep humming....Must still be too early,or perhaps it's just me

Sorry to be late at this party. But I really like Fairytale of New York.

I'm actually a big fan of the Pogues, i've seen them a couple of times and they were brilliant.

I saw Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl perform Fairytale of New York not too long before Kirsty's death.

Re: Music to conjure up Christmas spirit...

Yes, it's a classic DiG but I still can't get in the mood for Xmas this year.

What is the missing ingredient....am still working on it..

Re: Music to conjure up Christmas spirit...

Thanks for that one -had forgotten it. It's really taken me back and although in a way it's not a "Happy" song it has made me think...

Time to get the tinsel out perhaps.
