Howard Jones is pure pop from 1984 loved this one too!

Paul Rutherford nicked by Raybans, which had lost their glass, whilst we were in Planet X at Macmillans, just off Bold Street, and wore them on Top of the Pops.

I looked better.

Glasses without glass look stupid.

Though they made a perfectly acceptable Alice band.

Apologies. I misread this thread heading and thought that a punk had heralded the death of Hyndburn's MP, or was it the chap from the Vatican.

No spooky coincidence on this one.

I truly detested that song.

Still leaves me cold (turkey).

Did you listen to it again, I wonder? There is something a bit dreamy in there ,music-wise, not the singing, which with the video had me thinking of a young Mr. Beckwith on his travels in Egypt and the Orient for business, shortly after he left Italy

Re: Punk heralded the death of pop

Couldn't resist this one with today being "San Valentino". Is there a punk love song which stands the test of time?

The Power of Love is an absolute classic- great lyrics, memorable in every way and Holly still does it pretty well in this version.

You were right.

I hadn't listened to it again, before posting I didn't like it.

On your advice I just have.

Nope.

Still leaves me cold.

Perhaps I just don't like music you can't dance to.

Well, unless you fancy whizzing round the floor, doing a minuet.

Unlike this, which is much better for doing a jig to.

Nice car, don't mind the glasses either.

Am up for a whiz round the floor doing a minuet, when are you free?

Sorry! Not actually a Stranglers fan myself Sue - this tune though has something which does seem insinuate itself into your mind! It's the music i like not his singing..

The following one is less pop and more punk -much earlier but it always makes me smile -great bass line, terrible singing but funny "Cheeky" lyrics! Sorry for the awful pun too!
