Re: Alan Rogers

Overall stanley played quite badly.
We seem to look ok when we are on attack, we can pass the ball very well at times. We cant seem to finsh any chances at the moment though.
But when we dont have the ball we seem to look very nervous.(beause the team know we need to win) The defence don't know whether their coming or going. Swapping them around all the time must unsettle them EG dont know who is doing what, but this cant be helped until we find a good back four that can play together.

I think we will be able to stay up this season if we can find a gd back four that can play together. A stong centre mid, and a striker.

AND START TO PLAY LIKE THE STANLEY WE KNEW LAST SEASON !!!!!!

All those results came at a time when everyone was fit and no-one had left for pastures new. Having Boco back today didn't give us the lift we had hoped for either but he's gonna need time to get back into it too.

Here's how I see the situation as it stands:-

Goalkeepers :- we have 2 very decent goalkeepers who are unfortunately making errors at the moment and seem to be lacking in confidence. I my opinion the exit of Andy Dibble and his coaching have been the prime reason for this, and we all know that Coley doesn't know what the hell to do with goalkeepers apart from shout at them and blame them for everything!!!

Defence :- Almost the same unit as last year, the problem for me appears to be the lack of consistancy. Last year the defence had someone to turn to in Cooky that they could ask questions and turn to for advice, this year they had Dibble, He's gone and now they're feeling the effects of their own lack of assurance on top of that of the goalkeepers lack of confidence. Can I just say as well that we've never had the best of defenses and Coleys reign is certainly not glowing with watertight defending!!! This year the mistakes are being punished, last year they weren't. Simple as.

Midfield :- For me this were our problems are at their biggest. We've all got to accept the loss of Gary and Ian has been mortally wounding, you don't just lose the player you lose there impact on the rest of the team and mostly their goals. We have some good players in replacement but I honestly don't think you can just replace players of that caliber and not miss them terribly. The problem is that we've replaced two fairly polished gems with two rough looking diamonds in Harris and Whalley, they're gonna need time to polish up and we haven't got it.

Strikers :- We haven't got a killer. We haven't got a guarenteed 20 goals a season man, we've got a few lads that will chip in with anything up to 10 a season and we've got mully who'll always provide a threat in the air and get us 15 or so goals. But we need a killer more than ever now as we're no longer going to get the goals from midfield that we've enjoyed for the last couple of seasons, I actually thought Leighton McGivern could be it but with him out for the season I now believe we're sadly lacking.

And then there's Mr Rogers, not quite the donkey a few of you are making him out to be, I thought he was lucky to get away with a few things in the first half but generally he kept the back line talking and his reading of the game was probably the best on the park today, if we're going to survive we may need all the experience he carries with him. However, the tackle that saw him sent is probably the worst I've seem on the FES in a good many years and if his experience is to count for anything then he needs to learn that relegation dogfight doesn't actually mean put your fists up son your next!!! The jury is out, I just hope we're not.

Good post this Sparkie... A lot of truth, we havent replaced Cookie or Dibbs and their lies a problem ? what Football League experience is their at the FES ?? We have lost two members of staff with Approx 1000 games and 25 years of league experience between them, Their is some experience of the FL on the the board but is it called upon ?? Eric and Coley want to do it their way and yes i applaud their previous efforts but is our lack of all round experiance causing us problems ??.

What we need now is some good solid pro's who can play and help coach, players who have been in this position before players who have the know how.

I wasnt at todays game so i cant comment on Rogers.

Having had a rant my belief is we may hit some form, we arnt a bad side just a side lacking in confidence which i thought was regained at Wrexham ! I feel we are better than a number of sides in the league but we need some consistency !!! the lack of discipline isnt helping here.

I still believe we will finish comfortably :) but we need to wake up on and off the pitch FAST.

Like Sparkie's post, this too is excellent. We must get Cooky back on board ASAP!! And we must find a goalkeeping coach to assist. Neither of these posts are to undermine John and Jimmy, but embellish and improve on what is happening now!
Like you, I cannot comment on Mr Rogers, but if what I have read is true, then 3 games will be lucky for us. Indiscipline is one thing we must stamp on (no pun intended) NOW and players must be fined heavily for any indiscipline. We can be better than our position is, as we were earlier in the season.
Most of the supporters stated that 3rd bottom of the league at the end of the season would be a success, but I for one do not want to live on my nerves for the next four months.

Can't be at the game on Tuesday either, due to work commitments, I will always be willing the Reds on and hoping we can get another 3 points, but games are running out and I fear we will be the laughing stock of the Conference if we go back down so soon after promotion.

Yes, the likes of Morecambe singing, "Stanley are back", doesn't bear thinking about. [I use Morecambe as an example because we can rely on them still being there. :) ]

As for Mr.Rogers, can't better Shakermaker's thread starter, thanks but no thanks. What does Coley have against Edwards?????

We were actually a lot better today than against Boston, but losing against two such poor teams is hard to take. Cart On Stanley.

Re: Alan Rogers

I thought Rogers had a great game before the sending off. His long throw caused chaos in the county box and i thought he was our best player by a mile until his early bath. After he went we struggled to create many chances.

Richardson has been solid all season and doesn't deserve to be dropped but that doesn't mean he can play in any position, Rikki Bains has done well and didn't deserve to be sacraficed for the need to play Richardson. The first goal came from that side and the move should have been nipped in the bud before the ball hit the back of the net. Coley obviously has a problem in that he has to keep the players happy and playing first team football but if your playing lads out of their favoured position they will still give 100% but they will be out of there depth.

I honestly thought the wrexham game was a turning point for us. It was the best i've seen us play in some time, we looked lethal going forward. What has happened?

Re: Alan Rogers

I really wonder why we signed Rogers.

Surely what we need is a right back?
Not shifting a left back with a right foot to right back.

Re: Alan Rogers

We've got a ****** good right back in Edwards, if only Coley would play him REGULARLY in that position. He's our best bet by far in that position and should be the first player on our team sheet.

Perhaps JC is a visitor to this forum.Reverse phsycology(sp) may be required. "EDWARDS WORST PLATER IN SQUAD.".... "MANGAN IS PERFECT AS A SUB ONLY." etc may help him to go the percieved right way by doing the opposite. :).

Re: Alan Rogers

I think that a back four of Edwards, Williams, Welch, Richardson is as good as any in League 2. What they need is the chance to play as a unit regularly. If Rogers proves to be any good, he could move to left back with Leam Richardson pushed up to a defensive midfield role. Apart from injury, this defensive unit has been disrupted by too many suspensions. Good coaching will teach them that there will be cover for a lost/missed tackle, and that desperate foul tackles to foil an attack (the reason for so many yellow cards in the game at Bristol) are not necessary.

Saw the Rogers foul on telly this morning. Only going off the one brief viewing of it that looked very bad. 3 game ban for violent conduct what will the extra be for attempted murder

Did it look worse at the game than it did on telly ?

It was right in front of me & yes it did.
Rogers jumped and went in two footed, I think the County player actually slid under him! Like I said earlier; had Rogers made contact the opposition player would be very very lucky to play football again.

Yes, agree; only been picked as starting line-up once this season! Would use Bains as cover, has been OK when played (was he not fit yesterday?).

Rogers - got him as an experienced Pro; so what the heck was he doing? :o

Is Greg Challender doing nowt, he'd be cheaper  .

According to the Observer, Rogers has been signed on a month's loan, so possibly that could be his first and last match for us? Although, I don't know how sound their information is...if he wasn't with a club, then who's he on a month's loan from?
