Mullers Gone To Bantams

:( Cannot believe this:( Bad news for the club:(

Squad news

Mullin joins Bradford on loan
http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g.../pmullin08.JPGAccrington Stanley striker Paul Mullin has joined Bradford City on loan until the end of the season.

Speaking about the deal Stanley Chief Executive Rob Heys said "From the club's point of view it is disappointing to see one of our key players go out on loan, however Paul was very keen to take the opportunity to have a short spell in the Football League with another club, particularly as they are pushing for a play off place which could lead to a chance for him to play at Wembley."

Paul first joined Stanley in the summer of 1995 but was allowed to leave later that season. He had spells with several non-league clubs before returning to Stanley in the UniBond Premier Division in August 2000. Since that time he has been almost an ever present in the side, missing only ten league games in nine seasons. Last season he became the club's all time record appearance holder, notching up 400 games.

Paul will return to Accrington Stanley in May and the club wishes him and Bradford City all the best for the rest of the season. We expect to announce at least two additions to our squad later today.

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Lost for words, 2 year contract last season??????

Hope its somebody like Terry Gornell........

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

all i can say is i hope the loan fee we've charged them is astronomical! What are the odds by the way that one of those 2 players coming in is barry conlon? I think this just tells us that the club think we're safe now and that its time to see if we can get some extra cash in. If thats the case them i appreciate the situation but it won't make me any less than gutted about the decision :-(

Its not shock..... you are right K-P. I know he has to go sometime but not like this...IF they get promoted he will not be back... I fear the worst, just hope they lose every match for the rest of the season. Thats three times they have had us over this season - home, away AND NOW THIS........

If one of the players coming in is Barry Conlon, then it could be ok for us until the end of the season.

Not good news, but it doesn't have to be all bad.

:( Cannot understand why he fought for a 2 year deal, he did not go to The Shrews after we accepted an offer, we turned down money from Rochdale (I think, cannot think straight ) and just when things seem to be going OK this !!!!!!!!:(

personally i think your wrong.. I think the clubs wrong... BUT and this is the BIG BUT .... results will decide if its a good or bad thing.. we can but wait and see...

Plus I think its a Google Page Ranking disaster to tell us pauls gone and someone else will be coming in... should ahve named names instead of just upsetting a lot of people..

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

I think the chances of Paul leaving the club permanently are very, very slim.

For one, he is under contract for next season so Bratfoot would have to part with a transfer fee to secure his signing. I don't think they would do that for a player of Paul's age.

Secondly the loan fee (or Bantams paying his wages, or both) is obviously desperately needed. We wouldn't let him go otherwise.

Don't get me wrong - my initial reactions are ones of anger and confusion - just trying to keep calm! Incidentally I've just adopted a twitch...

Let's just pray that the players brought in have eight legs each and are eight feet tall. They might just fill the gastronomical gap that Paul left, that way.

If we have brought players in ( Three up to now ) they must cost us???? And fail to see how any/all of those will fill the gap......

Oh My God!!! No - what the hell is going on, I did exactly the same as Kipax - checking the date, unbloody-beleivable. Just getting in to good form and we lose Mullers - to that lot, how anyone can say it's not all bad, it's damn near catastrophic.

We won't be breaking the bank with Lindfield, Charnock and McConville. Plus if the players that come in are from Bradford then we probably won't pay anything towards their wages, let alone a fee.

It'll be alwight :)

edit: Just seen the three new signings on the fishy site. We're officially bollocksed.

You can not stop the man if he wants to play at wembley before his career is over! The chance of stanley playing at wembley in the next season or two looks slim! I think we could because we have got the players and the ability! Just gutted he went. We all know he is going to retire so we would have to get someone else in to fill is space and this is the opportunity to find out what style of football we play without mullin to hold the ball up and flick it on to Lindfield. We have just brought in a 6foot 3 player so not like we have not got height upfront is it.

I'd put money on Paul Mullin being with us next season. We also need the loan fee.

The real issue is the extremely less than adequate replacements we've brought it.

This is the worst piece of business ever done.

Why do we need the money all of a sudden??? If that was the case (Which I do not believe as we had £50k for Charnock in Jan allegedly ) why not loan out "Fringe" players to also gain experience and why bring in all the other loans ???? More to this than meets the eye.. Hope I am not right!

Well, this came out of the wild blue yonder. I hope the club have thought this one through but from the fishy site account it sounds as if Mullin himself has made the decision. Just when things were looking up but if Mullin's opted to go then the club just have to get on with it. Not what we wanted right now, but hey, this is Stanley.....flying by the seat of our pants

Let's hope the loan player we have brought in has a bit of pace, can shoot, turn with the ball and run at the opposition defence. Four things that Paul Mullin cannot do. OK he has been a good servant to the club but when it's time to go it's time to go and I for one think this is the time. It's a pity that he didn't go to Shrewsbury for £70K last season.

As Bradford's top scorer, Peter Thorne, is out with a neck injury, Paul could well be playing against Port Vale for the second time in 5 days. Wins for us and Bradford would then see us above Vale in the league.

In fact, if all the results go our way on Saturday, we could go as high as 16th.

Found one positive thing see fishy site! Not that it will helps us on the pitch! To be honest tomorrow we will see how much we miss Paul Mullin, but also we will see how we play without him. I think it will make the game more interesting as alot of clubs think w just hoof the ball up the mullin and we play from thier. If we lose tomorrow some people will blame the club for letting Mullin go, but Exeter are doing well in 6th so it will be a hard game. Am looking foward to tomorrows game even more now.

Paul Mullin is 35 years old isn't he? We have probably seen the last of him this season..

Given his age.. will he be back next season? have you seen the setup at bradford.. having tasted the relative big time will he want to go back to porta cabins... he doesnt need the money.. he has nothing to prove and has probably gone to bradford for a taste of somehting else..

I would honestly be more than surprised if he starts for us next season..

Just read their fans comments about him and you may not think it's so harsh - of course for Paul's sake I'd want him to be (almost) happy there  - but they don't deserve his services, most are writing him off before he's kicked a ball for them.

I have read it and yes you are right, they are saying he is a non-league go around and only turning pro at 2004 etc some bad comments which will hurt alot of stanley fans as it did to me because we know how good he is! But how many of our fans wrote of Lindfield when we signed him saying things like he has been to many clubs and only scored a handfull of goals etc. Ever game i have been to home and away he has play very well. The game on Tuesday was the best i have seen him play, yeh he aint scored lots of goals but he works very hard and will have an even more inportant job tomorrow. Mullin is 35 does not have long left in the career and proberly wants to play infront of more than 2,000 fans every week. Better ground and proberly training facilities. Tomorrow will be a very good game. I have great faith in Coley and Jimmy and the squad to continue where we left off on tuesday

Roll on 3pm Saturday nothing better than watching Stanley in the Sun shine, having a good old sing song, and the team playing brilliant like tuesday.

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

i reckon paul mullin will def be back at stanley for the start of next season! even if he does well for bradford they won't want to pay a transfer fee. i know it seems a strange decision to let him go for the last couple months of the season, but with accy being more or less safe from the drop it isn't that big a gamble. it gets his wages off the bill for a while & does anyone have an idea of the money bradford have paid stanley for the loan?? unless you do can we really know if this is a good or bad deal for our club?

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

I agree with Jeff and Cashman. I think Paul, great servant though he has been, has looked decidedly jaded in recent weeks. In fact, against Vale on Tuesday I thopught he had a bit of a 'mare. THe truth is, we have to look forward and, like it or not, a 35 year old Paul Mullin is not the fufure of the club. Now at least we'll get the chance to see how we look without him - and sending him on loan to Bradford is certainly a better option than just dropping him, which I felt was something we ought to be thinking about.

If he does well, regains a bit of form and comes back, then great. If not, then so be it. No player is bigger than the club.

What we need to do now is to get behind the new guys - singing songs about a Bradford Ciry player is not the kind of thing which will do their confidence any good at all.

the thing i see here is some are letting sentiment rule oer common sense, ferget paul mullen fer now, in bare fact Stanley are the club, Mullen is just n ex player, wish him well n get on wi it.

then why didnt we say no.. why didnt we tell him we need you here to help us survive.. the excuse so far is.. he wanted to go and its best for him.... how does that work if the club is more important than one man?

we should ahve kept him and he would have still played his heart out for us because he is that sort of person.. instead we went for the pound notes.. typical..

now look at some of the posts on here saying forget paul mullin... ok if we win on saturday and tuesday then its all worked out.

but to say forget paul mullin he is a bradfford player... thats sad :( I for one never thought i would see stanley fans saying that about PM

" why didnt we tell him we need you here to help us survive.. "

Presumably because we feel we don't need him to help us survive - and that I agree with.

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

There is clearly no other reason except for the club's money troubles why we have had to allow Paul Mullin to go out on loan. We must've received a multitude of these kind of offers in the past and have been able to decline them. The garble on the website about Paul wanting to play at a different level is utter tosh. Paul Mullin signed a two year contract intending to see out his career in red, not in Bratfoot's minging kit. If we lose Paul Mullin this summer, the people at the club will have let Accrington Stanley and it's fans down, big time. But that's just conjecture for now.

I still think that this whole nightmarish episode is the worst piece of business ever done.... and we have seen Justin Jackson here.

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

If Paul Mullin did not want to go on loan to bradford he would of said no. No club can force a player to go somewhere they do not want to go! Now unless anyone has spoken to Paul in the last 5 hours than we will just have to take the club's word for it! Whether people belive it or not! Tomorrow we are playing without him and we should get behind ever stanley player tomorrow. Paul Mullin is a Stanley legend and always will be but for that 90mins tomorrow, back every stanley player sing the players song's, song's about the club and the managerment. Win, Lose or draw Stanley will still be football league next year. Whether Mullin will be apart of that is something we will just have to wait to see. But if we lose tomorrow it's nor the club's fault or Mullins fault. That fact that they are 6th and we are 19th may have something to do with it! Everything will be good, we had to play without Mullin someday and this has come sooner than some would of liked!

Utter rubbish.

Also, your "oh well, Paul's gone, get over it and move on" attitude just won't cut it. Paul signed for Stanley a season or two after I started coming on the Crown regularly and his exemplary footballing ethic has been one of the main reasons why I've continued to watch the reds. If anyone embodies Accrington Stanley, Paul Mullin is far ahead of any other contender. It is impossible to feel positive about the Exeter game when there's such a huge feeling of loss. It sounds stupid and melodramatic but it's true. Come back Paul!

Re: Mullers Gone To Bantams

Yeh i was as gutted as most when i heard the news Mullin had gone on loan because just as the team was getting a good run together it gets broken down. But their is nothing we can do about it! Yes he plays good football and like i said Mullin will not be forgotten nor am i saying "move on get over it" but what if he decided to retire after his contract was up next season. We would still be in the same position as we are today, Losing a very good player but we have to find another play who will fill his place might not play the same e.g hold up the ball etc but we will see a different kind of football like we have done lately at the FES using the wings more and not just hoofing the ball up the Mullin.

Err... that's down to Coley's tactics and the competence of our midfield servicemen. Not the presence of Paul Mullin.

What a great lad you are, MCR. Could do with a few more like you on this messageboard.

A striker who according to his own fans is not good enough, a young lad in his first year as a proffesional from a club who have probably charged nowt and a non league reserve goalie looking for a break. My guess is that the total amount is about 5p :D

This is a crock!

Mullin's been a fantastic player, head & shoulders above anyone since we started our run to the league. For me, the club have messed up, for me Mullers has blotted his copy book!

League 1 or above I could understand but for a day out at Wembley........ Bull sh it! He will only be a bit part player even if he does make it.

Sad Sad Sad Sad; you think the worls of some of your "heroes" then they stab you in theback

So what, we aren't even safe!!!!!!

Its a joke, watch Chester & Grimsby bring players in while we loan out our main striker. Watch them beat us. Watch them over take us. Then what!!!!!

If its about money then i'd like to see someone admit it, cause this can't be about points for Accrington Stanley....

Football is corrupt; even at our level.

It's the timing of this move that concerns me, although I appreciate Bradford's need at this crucial period. Hope it doesn't put the skids under our new-found run of form. We all know that Paul won't be here for ever but this smacks of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Those who say we are safe from relegation need their heads looking at!
