For those that wonder what model bus it is:A Critchley and Norris with Crossley 40 hp engine and Knape bodywork operated by the Burnley Motor Pleasure Company from 1906 (Interesting that the date on the photo is 1905??)

High Riley Cottages still exist? Course they do. Know its not mega important, but that date of 1625 just doesnt sound correct. Am sure its 1628.

Trying to work out what van that is above, could it be the Ford Squire? the forerunner to the Popular and Prefect?
is it a Hillman Husky ? .I used to live and grew up in the house right next door to the Horseshoe pub in the 50's

Looking at the rear windows and wheel arch I think it's a Hillman Estate Car, one of several vehicles sold by Rootes that were based on the Minx saloon in the 50s.
See what you think at
Hillman Husky & the Estate Cars of the 1950s.

The barrage balloon was on the sight of what is now the Arndale Center, the balloon was struck by lightning twice during the war, it never caught any jerry planes.

Hi Wadey....looked at the link..and yes, seems to be a Hillman....When I lived next door to the Horseshoe pub it would have been very rare to see any vehicles...but if this photo was the 50's...I would have been there at the time the photo was taken....

Various views from Blackburn Rd/Peel St........

I am very curious about this one, I assume the stand is for the Mayor etc? and what is in front of it? looks like an optical illusion, surely can't be a trench of some kind?

Was the stand in the first picture of your new entry not built for George V's visit on July 9th, 1913 ?

Can't help with the trench thingy... did they not have traffic cones then ? LOL..
