I visited the museum in the market hall. for the first time last week and liked it. I felt that labelling could be improved but my overall feeling was of enjoyment. I commend it to you. Get in there and soak up some nostalgia. I shall go into the market hall again on my next trip and have a better look round.

Glad to know you went and saw with your own eyes. The labelling is a problem, but ... patience ..... we will work on it!

I find this report very "strange". I was at the meeting. Most of this article is a load of bunkum.

MUSEUM GROUP ON THE MOVE

Although moving into the upstairs premises of the Arndale Centre has been "talked about" - the group have now been offered the chance of bigger premises in the Arndale Centre, in what was H Samuels jewellers premises. This will happen fairly soon. This means MORE ROOM to hopefully have some good LOCALLY CONNECTED DISPLAYS.
So, the question is, does anyone have anything locally connected i.e. to E J Rileys, to Howard & Bullough's, to Blake's Rams, to Ewbank - to "anything" from our industrial past! Does anyone have any school connected items? All we ask is "Please Think Museum" and anything that may be of interest, would you let us know please?

I'm an Archivist and grew up in Accy and am back temporarily 'between jobs' (unfortunately have never been able to find one in my field round here!) and am so glad to read about your efforts to get a museum up and running! Last time I was in the Arndale I saw all the empty units and thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity the council didn't take the chance to subsidise something like a museum which would bring people back in. I've read about all kinds of pop-up and shop based museums in some heritage mags and journals and they are always usually really successful.

Trust the community to be more on the ball! Do the opening times on the previous page still stand? Would love to come down and have a look round before I unfortunately must move again for the next job. Is there a mailing list or something of that description to garner the support of the nameless majority when necessary? Would like to subscribe and keep up with goings on as I won't be living too far away!

The museum could do with some professional advice and input - get down there Lindsay and volunteer your services. My opening words should be seen as constructive criticism.

Hi, well, things have moved a lot since my last thread.

Thursday 28th NOV 2013 is to be the opening of the Hyndburn Heritage Centre, shortly to open in the old premises of H.Samuel in the Arndale. Our Mayor has been invited along to officially open it for us. We are also keeping our two units in the Market Hall!

(Thursday 28th Nov also the Xmas lights switch on!)
